Peisinoê had recommended Rasmus to try the falls to help with huis overall mental health, and though mental and emotional health/stability had never been her area of expertise, she held true to that suggestion. It was something she regularly did on her own to relax, to reconnect with her roots, and to force herself to stop working for a bit.
A bit, in this case, was several hours.
Her sleep schedule was off, this week she was off two days in a row at the Clinic, so she had got lost in a state of tunnel vision on Thursday and stayed up until about 10 AM which was going to throw her whole week off, honestly, she really needed to stop that. Once she had emerged from her lab at home she slept for too long which further made things wonky. So Friday she had been up all night working, and finally at around 3AM she put her foot down on this nonsense.
Only her own nonsense of course, everyone else’s was none of her business. Unlike their mother, she was no gossip. She had hiked her way down to the waterfalls in sweat pants and a emerald green sports bra, shifted into her natural form with a palpable sense of relief. Peisinoê’s tail, a beautiful wave of shimmering shades of green that was similar to their father’s, splashed in the water and caught the moonlight in one of the few times she was truly pleased with her physical shape. It was cold, of course it was cold, but it was the water and she was a mermaid. Even those from the warmer parts — and she wasn’t, their home was somewhere towards the colder end of the spectrum but not near as severe as some others — were fine in cold water, at least for a spell.
Peisinoê planned to watch the sunrise from the water, head home and sleep probably. Who knows. But finally, her mind, that always wanted to work on a puzzle, a challenge, solve some problem far bigger than herself, had slowed down so that she could feel peaceful floating there in the water. The sound was muffled on the outside, the world narrowing down to her and the ripples of her occasional splashing tail and the tumble from the waterfall.
