She was hiding something - or not telling him the entire truth, at the very least. As a student of body language, he could tell that much, but he wouldn't push it. They weren't really close friends, after all, and it likely wasn't any of his business.
"Ah, well, try to go to bed earlier tonight," he suggested, the words sounding lame even as he said them. He cleared his throat. "So, the boy's given you the slip, has he?"
