RP: Catching up
Date: 30 September 1997
Characters: Hestia Jones, Viktor Krum
Location: Hestia's Flat
Status: Private
Summary: Viktor stops by to say hello
Completion: Complete

VIktor had decided to think about his conversation with Bill, by taking another walk.  He was pleased to hear that not all the British Wizards were content to stand by and watch their whole community come apart at the seams.  Pulling his coat tighter he stomped through the streets. Did he really want to get into a war that wasn't his? No, he wasn't raised to think that way. If nothing else his grandfather's death had taugh him that one person could make a difference and just seeing back and watching bad things happen was wrong.  Sure he had been protected this time around but would it be long before those who didn't jump on the party line would be targetted?

When he came out of his thoughts he found himself closer to Hestia's place than his own and since they really hadn't spent much time together since his interview he decided to pop in.  Passing a small market,  Viktor stopped in picking up some bread and cheese for them as well. Hope fully she wouldn't mind that he hadn't owled ahead of time.

Reaching her flat, Viktor stood at her doorstop and knocked.

Hestia nearly jumped from her skin when she heard the knock at her door. She shook her head at her own fright, but she moved through her flat to answer the door all the same. She hadn't been expecting any visitors for the evening, but she welcomed any polite company.

She'd been spending less time at the safehouse since her run in with Bellatrix Lestrange at the Ministry. If she were being watched, she didn't want to lead anybody to the Dursleys or Diggle. Hestia was sure that Diggle would be fortifying the enchantments around the cottage soon, and until then, Hestia was spending as little time there as possible. Perhaps she was being paranoid about the whole situation, but she didn't want to take unnecessary risks. She feared the Viktor was already in a bit of trouble, and she didn't want to cause more for Diggle or Harry's family.

"Viktor," Hestia said with surprise as she checked the peep hole to see who was outside of her door. "Where were we the first time that we spoke to each other?" she asked through the door, her wand drawn against the wood. When he answered correctly, Hestia instantly opened her door and ushered him inside.

"I'm sorry that I'm being ridiculous," she said at the look of confusion in Viktor's eyes. She quickly replaced the locks and wards on her door before turning to him. "We've tightened security at the hospital, so I sort of felt that it wouldn't hurt to do it at home as well." She pressed her fingers through her hair again before briefly gripping his hand.

"I wasn't expecting you tonight, but I'm glad to have you nonetheless. There's nothing wrong, is there?" She asked as casually as she could. "I just put the tea kettle on, would you like a cup?" Keeping her hands busy would help distract her a bit, especially if Viktor was visiting because there was a problem.

Hestia's precautions had caught Viktor by surprise but considering everything that had been going on he couldn't really blame her. "Don't vorry Hestia, cautious is a good thing."

He entered the flat and eyed her carefully, she looked tired and maybe a little scared.

"I should have owled, I am sorry. I vas walking and found myself near by. So I decided to pop in. I did bring snack that vould got vith tea."

"No, it's certainly not your fault that I'm taking extra precautions, I like it when you come over, you're wonderful company," she said with a smile as she pulled him along into her kitchen.

"You were out walking?" Hestia asked as she poured the tea and set the cups on her small table. "Just for a distraction, or something in particular on your mind?" she asked curiously. At least there wasn't anything wrong to have him visiting her without notice. She hoped that there wasn't anything too serious that was causing him to worry. Hestia didn't want that for him.

"A snack will get you everywhere, Mr. Krum," Hestia teased as she peeked at what he'd brought over.

He let her lead him into the kitchen with a smile, for just dropping in to see her, Hestia seemed very happy to have him around and that make him feel before for his casualness.

“I vas valking and thinking. The latest events have been very illuminating, as you might have guessed. I needed to process things.” Viktor explained as he pulled out the fresh bread and a chunk of cheese out. There were some chocolates as well.

“Very simple stuff I promise, but the bread is still varm.”

"The fresh air helps as well," Hestia said as she took the loaf of bread from him a cut a few slices. It was warm and it smelled absolutely delicious, just what she needed. She wasn't completely used to this, having somebody that would drop in just because he was near her flat, somebody that would think of spending time with her just because he wanted to. Hestia liked Viktor very much, but she also liked the sort of relationship that they had. Things between them were progressing much more slowly than what she was used to, but new and different, in this case, wasn't bad.

"The Ministry hasn't been bothering you, have they?" she asked with concern. She wanted to tell him to get away from her, she wanted to tell him to go home to Bulgaria where it was safe, but she also wanted to keep him to herself. Hestia knew that she was selfish with him, but she also wanted to protect him from the troubles that she saw every day, and she couldn't take being responsible for pulling him into this war.

"You know I'm not the terribly fancy sort of girl," Hestia said as she stepped closer to him. She placed the plate of cheese and bread she'd just sliced on the table before she moved her hands to rest at his hips. "Thank you for stopping by," she said, leaning up to brush her lips against his. "I hope that you don't have to leave too soon." And with that she allowed her lips to press fully against his, taking time to kiss him thoroughly.

"No, no things are fine Hestia I promise. The Ministry has to take great care in interviewing me, I am not a citizen and I am celebrity. Bulgaria is very protective of me."

Viktor appreciated that the whole interview had probably had been very frightening for Hestia but he hoped to assure her he would be fine.

"I like you as you are and that you are the type of girl vho enjoys simple thing like this. There is no rush to go home, I came to spend time vith you. " And to see if I should risk your safety by joining a resistance movement

"I'm good at worrying, probably too good at it," Hestia said as she bit her lip. She worried about him being in this country, she worried that she might actually be the cause of his issues with the Ministry, despite his weak ties to Harry. She liked him enough that she didn't want him caught in the mess of England right now, but she was much too selfish to beg him to go back to Bulgaria. It would be safer to let him go, but Hestia couldn't let herself completely part with him.

She sat at the kitchen table and crossed one leg over the other as she helped herself to a piece of cheese. "Flattery will get you everywhere as well, Viktor," Hestia said with a smile. She just wished that sometimes he would take more advantage of what she offered him.

"You've had a good day today, I hope," she said as she snagged a bit of the warm bread to accompany her cheese. "Anything new to see at the museum since I was last there?"

"Vell I shoudl not be vone of you vorries, I care about you Hestia I do and I'm not going anyvhere." He promised her. As he said the words Viktor knew that he would be owling Bill later on to hear more about those who weren't willing to just watch what was going on in this country.

Viktor blushed catching a bit of her innuendo, it wasn't that he didn't want Hestia, he did but he had been raised with a different standard and didn't want to treat her like a loose woman.

Her question pulled Viktor out of his thoughts and he nodded. "My day was quiet but I am getting used to that. Ve did get some more antique brooms so I think we might put on a large exhibition or something. The curator is still thinking about it."

Part of her wanted him to leave because she wanted him to be safe, she wanted him to go home or just get out of the country, but a weaker, more selfish part of Hestia wanted Viktor to stay with her. She liked the idea that somebody cared about her more than other people, she liked that he dropped by to see how she was doing, even if it could be dangerous for him. She cared about him, Hestia couldn't deny that, so she worried. "Sometimes that's why I worry, I know that you're too stubborn to leave," Hestia said with a sigh. "I just don't want you making unwise judgments on my behalf." She ran her fingers over his hand, smiling at his blush.

"An exhibition would probably be good for the place, it'd probably help with business, even if it would mean more...publicity," Hestia said. One of the reasons that Viktor came to London was to get away from the publicity of his home, so Hestia hoped that his curator would take that into consideration while planning any sort of event.

"I used to think that the quiet days at the hospital were horrible when I first started my training, mostly because there was nothing to do. Now I'm glad for the quiet times when they come my way," she said, pushing her teacup away.

Viktor nodded as he chewed his bread, the exhibition would help the museum , but he coudln't help but think there were other things at work, until now the curator had never shown interest in advertising the museum, he had been content to just have his pieces and enjoy life and now he was talking about brining in more guests.

There was the publicity aspect of it as well. But he didn't think his stalker would cross to Britain, there was too much upheaval. "I vill survive the publicity I think, if I am lucky I vill only be named as Assistant curator."

Hestia did look upset, telling him there was more going on than a busy hospital. She loved her work. "It vill be ok възлюбена, it might take time but it vill be. " He reached for her hand and gave it a squeeze.

Hestia nodded, her fingers moving easily into place beside Viktor's. "I just wish that I knew how much time," she said somberly as she gripped his hand.

Hestia knew what she needed to do to keep him safe, to keep him from being connected to her should things become more desperate, but she hadn't yet prepared herself for that. She felt like she only had two options: tell Viktor everything and only endanger him more, or convince him that she wasn't the sort of woman he should be with right now and break ties to keep him safe. She didn't want to make either decision, but sooner or later, she knew how much he meant to her, and Hestia knew that she would have to do something.
