"It's...fine," he said, unable to think of an appropriate adjective. It wasn't exactly true. He was, in fact, confused. Now he couldn't help but wonder if Penny wanted him to do something more, or if she still liked him. He cared for her, of course, but wasn't sure whether or not his feelings were residual; she'd been his first girlfriend. He doubted he'd ever think of her with anything but fondness.
Sighing at his internal monologue, he reached up and brushed his hair off his forehead with his forearm. "And people wonder why spells such as Obliviate were created," he said lightly, hoping to assuage some of the awkwardness between them.
He took the tomatoes and onions and scraped them into the bowl of salad, tossing it with another flick of his wand.
