"All right," he agreed. "I'll be in the lobby when you get here. See you in a little while."
After disconnecting, he looked in the mirror to make sure his hair wasn't sticking up, or anything, and went to the lobby to wait for her. He probably should have brought something to read, but he'd been in a hurry to get down. Which was dumb, since it would take longer than the few seconds it took to grab a book for her to get here. He settled for people watching instead, which gave him a good excuse to keep an eye on the door.
The first thing he noticed when Megan walked in was that she looked upset, which wasn't really unexpected. Then he noticed that it looked like she might have been crying, which wasn't really shocking, either, but it still made his stomach clench.
Standing, he walked over to her, set her trunk aside for the time being, and wrapped her in a hug. "It's all right, Meg. Being on the run isn't all that bad," he lied, speaking quietly so no one would overhear him. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad without company.
