Percy hovered over the pan on his worktop, wand at the ready. He'd spent the better part of his evening preparing a steak pie, and was currently fretting over the crust in a way that would have made his mother proud (and would likely have earned sarcastic comments from his siblings). Thankfully, it was just him and Hermes in his flat, which was, he was happy to note, starting to smell delicious. He inhaled deeply and adjusted his glasses as he waited for the flaking crust to turn the perfect shade of gold.
His dining room table was set for two. It wasn't very fancy, admittedly, even with the transfiguration spells he'd used to sculpt the woodwork and cover old scratches and knicks, but at least it had a polished look. That was good enough for Percy, and he didn't think Penny would really care.
He glanced at the clock on the wall (and even after living on his own for a couple of years, it was always a little jarring to see his family's names absent from its face). Penny would be arriving soon and he still had a bottle of wine to open. That could wait until she was actually there, though, and he rather thought they'd both need a drink or two. He'd heard news of another Death Eater attack, but nothing had been reported in the papers. He couldn't say he was surprised, but he was worried.
The situation at the Ministry was getting worse by the day, and the Muggle-born Registration was putting out memos almost daily. He could only imagine what Penny was thinking, or how worried she probably was. A talk was in order, and perhaps a plan, too. If he'd learned anything lately, it was that it was best to prepare for the worst.
