Lila and Jesper
"It never hurts to have an ace in the hole," Lila agreed. The vampires--many of them, anyhow, maybe not all--had revealed themselves. But they needed blood, and if they couldn't get it from volunteers they'd have to take it, so revealing themselves probably made sense to avoid conflict. But others weren't so open. Lila was keeping her own talent to herself as well. "A little something to surprise your enemies."
"It's just what-if stories," Lila said. "'What if someone traveled to the moon or other worlds?' or 'What if someone built a ship that could travel underwater?' What would it be like? What would they find? What kind of adventures might they have?"
"I like reading. It's a good way to learn from other peoples' mistakes, or just to pass the time. But none of us are going to be doing a lot of reading here."
