At Kate's comment, Michelle looked up at her. "Do you know how to work a forge? I can, and two of us could double our production." Her face fell. "Assuming we have fuel for the furnace," she added. Then she shook of the mood. "But that's a problem for another day.
Kate found a pair of pants in one building, but none of the other clothing there was fit to be worn. "Good find," Michelle said. She wished again that she'd had her bug-out bag with her when she arrived. It had contained several sets of spare clothing, among other things. Ah well.
While wandering the island in search of rabbits, the two of them came upon a bog. Michelle's spirits rose when she spotted it. She ran ahead of Kate to inspect it, hoping it was what she thought it was. It was. She was practically dancing when Kate caught up to her.
"Do know what this is?" Michelle asked Kate, waving excitedly at the bog behind her. She didn't wait for an answer. "It's a peat bog! Peat! We can cut it, dry it, and burn it for fuel. It's as good a coal."
"We can heat water for bathing. We can cook over it. We can fuel a forge! This is huge!"
