Nina hoped that she'd hear a heartbeat, because to not hear one meant they might have to deal with creatures that neither of them understood and that her powers might be useless at the moment. She took a deep and steadying breath, hoping to steady herself, before using her hands to help slow down her own heartbeat before she had a panic attack.
While the Grisha would never use her powers on her friends without their express permission, Nina did think about using it so the sounds didn't overwhelm Kaz quite so much. She recognized the look on her friend's face and it concerned her greatly. Nina knew better than to place a hand on Kaz. "The moans can stop."
She looked around and took in the torn picture, the broken furniture and she chewed on her lip as she moved around the room. "Yes." Nina quickly followed and even she gasped quietly when a shadow brushed past her as well.
A quiet whisper and Nina knew how much she completely hated this place. Her friend's sharp inhale didn't help Nina's nerves, because it meant something touched him and Nina knew Kaz well enough to understand how much he loathed being touched.
