I read something in a book that it helps them become a man and what not, but I know people who didn't have parents and they grew up decently - hell, they grew up to become good people despite not having authority figures. Life usually teaches people a thing or two about what's right and wrong - parents just prepare them to take it in and mold it into something they see fit."
