It had taken Skye a while to stop crying after Ward had told her she'd have him, she'd lost it for a good twenty minutes after she'd seen that message because it just made her remember the words that she'd heard him whisper as he'd died in her arms, the version of him that she'd never gotten a chance to be with once she realized she did still love him. It had been confusing and upsetting to see him, a different version of him on the network that this place had but even though he wasn't the same he was. Skye couldn't quite wrap her head around it and she honestly didn't have the strength to try at that point. It was just easier to move on and try to handle the emotions it stirred up when she was feeling a little more together, which she really hoped would be soon.
Skye had been a little bit worried about meeting him for a drink and a talk but the more she thought about it the more she thought it was a good idea. She hadn't talked to anyone after his death back home, it had been too difficult and despite everyone saying they were there for her she just couldn't bring herself to talk to them about him. So she'd quietly lived with her grief, she hadn't dealt with it at all and it had slowly eaten away at her and left her feeling raw and vulnerable. Somehow though this Ward, even just on the networks, had made her feel a little better. Maybe it was a universal thing and any Ward would have had the same effect, she wasn't sure if that was the case or not but whatever it was she wanted to talk to him in person and see if it translated across.
There was no denying it would be difficult to sit across from someone who for all intents and purposes was identical to the man she'd buried back home but Skye felt like she needed to do this. Maybe it would bring her some closure and she could finally start to put her grief behind her but there was every chance it would do the opposite and cause her to fall to pieces completely so that she could never be whole again. It was a risk but one she felt she had to take.
Since she'd been staying at Granny's or rather the small hotel it offered she'd gone straight down after she'd done her best to cover up the evidence of her crying so she was just sitting there waiting for Ward to show up. She was dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a black shirt, her jacket lay on the seating next to her and she was playing with a couple of sugar packets she'd pulled out of the container on the table. Every time the door opened she looked up to see if it was him, she'd done this a few times and seen strangers but this time when she looked up she saw him and instantly she felt tears welling in her eyes. He looked almost identical, every detail was the same and it was almost too much. She stood up out of the booth and hesitated near the end of the table as he made his way towards her, she smiled softly and had to fight the almost overwhelming urge to run to him and hug him tight. He might carry the name Ward and look the same but she didn't really know him so she wasn't sure if she should or even could hug him.
"Hi," she said quietly as he got closer. "I waited for you before I ordered because I wasn't sure what you'd want."
