He knew it the moment she moved. Emma Swan talked of super powers, but what good was any power at all if it couldn't stop the bullet he'd unleashed? He knew in the flurry of activity because, for the love of everything good in this world, Clarke would never just let someone get shot if she could stop it. God, he hated her for that. His ears were still ringing and the gunshot was still bouncing off the trees, but Bellamy had already dropped the gun and was pitched forward in a frantic movement toward Clarke.
"Clarke!" he called her name and swallowed back a curse when he couldn't reach her in time to catch her before she hit the ground. He crashed to the earth beside her, a hand instantly pressing against the wound to try and stop the bleeding. Her name tumbled from his lips several times before he could reel himself back in and swallow the panic and the fear. Screw you, I'm not afraid. Lexa vanished from his world as if she wasn't there at all. The grounder could have taken the opportunity to slit both their throats and Bellamy never would have raised a hand against her. Luckily, she stood several feet away, locked in her own stunned silence and too surprised to move.
"Hey," Bellamy's voice shook and he tried to assess the damage, but he wasn't a healer, he wasn't a doctor, he had no medical training. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he started babbling the words because he couldn't think. He couldn't form actual thoughts because he'd gone and fucking shot Clarke. How was he going to fix this? What was he supposed to do? This wasn't supposed to happen. He was supposed to save her, not do this. "Clarke, stay with me, okay?" It was just her side, right? Finn took a knife to the chest and was okay. Raven took a bullet to the spine and she stayed awake and alive and fought her way to survival. Clarke was ten times that strong... right?
"Tell me what to do. You have to tell me-" Bellamy stopped. He couldn't even save her without her telling him how to do it. How could he constantly get things so, so wrong? "Is there an exit wound?" he asked, trying to remember the things he'd read, the things he heard Clarke and Abby say over Raven. "Clarke!"
