It wasn't like she could walk away here, anyway. There was nowhere she could go. Into the woods maybe. That wasn't far enough. And to be honest, she didn't even know where she was going to go when she'd walked away back home. Leaders had to make difficult decisions sometimes, she knew that. It was in all the history they'd studied on the Ark. She just didn't think that choice would have to come down to "us or them". It wasn't fair. But that was life. They had done what they had to do.
He needed her? Maybe they did back home, but not here. Or at least not so much. Why would they need her here? Storybrooke was so different than what they were used to, and it was a lot to adjust to. But there were probably a hundred or more Clarkes here by now. Bellamy could have needed any one of them. But he was specific. He needed her. This Clarke.
She nodded. "I know." She said. He was right. They all had blood on their hands now. But the blood that Clarke and Bellamy carried was darker somehow. There were innocent lives that they'd ended to save their own people. Children. Some of them had barely begun their lives. How could she ever get rid of the guilt? She didn't think she could. She didn't think she deserved to, honestly.
His words made her smile a bit. And they also jarred her. He was saying he loved her? She knew they had something here. She just didn't know exactly what it was. But now he loved her? "You love...me?" Of course she'd focus on that rather than him thinking she was no monster.
