The sound of dripping water echoed to every corner of the practically empty apartment. At first it was a quiet sound but as it continued each drip was like thunder. It was probably due to being the only sound within those four walls for the last little while. The echoes of the drips bouncing off the plain, beige walls in a predictable rhythm. As soon as the sound of one faded another would fall into the sink, hitting the cool steel. It was enough to make it so that the sole resident was unable to close his eyes and fall asleep. His eyes slowly blinked as he stared upon the ceiling from the couch in the living room. From the corner of his eye he could see the ceiling fan spinning around. He would have expected it to make some sound but it was silent. Not even the sound of the blades cutting the air but that was because the blades were moving at the lowest speed. Barely moving air around the room. It was cool enough to be laying there without the fan but Cooper didn’t want to risk standing up. He knew that the moment that he stood up that he would think of something that he would need to do. Or finally decided that it was time to get out of that apartment. He knew that he couldn’t hide away forever. Especially since his loving brother had publicly told people that he was in Storybrooke. There was no point in hiding anymore since the whole point was it to be like he wasn’t there. It didn’t change the fact that he hadn’t walked out of the apartment. With his mind decided he stayed lying there on the couch. He was going to continue to try to fall asleep in his living room even though he wasn’t much of a napper. He figured if he tried enough it would happen. He wasn’t even sure what time it was. Only that it was still daytime because light poured in from the windows. It seemed like he was laying on the couch for hours when he felt a hand move up from his abdomen to his chest. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes not wanting to see who it was. No one that knew who he was or where he was would do that. He wasn’t sure who he thought it could be but he knew who he hoped it wasn’t. The hand didn’t linger on his chest for long. It slowly moved up his body, running the long fingers through his hair as he felt the weight of a whole person straddling him. He inhaled as the feeling of the fingers through his hair sent chills down his spine. His body trembling as the weight shift and the person on top of him rest elbows on his chest. Now hands on both sides of his head, gently brushing through his dark hair. Cooper hadn’t even noticed that he couldn’t hear the dripping of the faucet any longer. He was too preoccupied by what was happening to him in that moment. His mind racing with a thousand different thoughts. Most of which telling him to open his eyes and face whatever he saw head on. It didn’t mean that was what he did. He opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. He still couldn’t get himself to open his eyes to see who was on top of him. Although he feared that he knew who it was. He didn’t have to wonder long. It was only a couple of seconds after he tried to speak that the woman on top of him spoke. “Cooper,” she said in a calm tone. “Don’t you want to come home, Cooper? It’s safe here. I’m here.” His whole body started to tense up as she spoke to him. He was fighting what he wanted to say in response to her question. He wanted to feel safe again like she was saying. His mind kept thinking about Lila, Nate, and his Dad. More importantly his mom who he didn’t have back home but he did here. It was at this time he wanted to open his eyes but it was like he was trapped. He couldn’t get himself to open them even when he was trying to. He could feel himself start to panic as he felt out of control of what was happening. His whole body began to tense up. As she felt his body tense she shh-ed him. Continuing to stroke his hair as she spoke, “No, no shh Cooper. It’s okay. Take a deep breath.” There was a pause as he did as she instructed. “Calm your mind.” She was continuing on with the faustus method that she had used as a back up. It sounded like she was going to continue speaking when he screamed out, “NO!” His eyes popped open and he sat up on the couch thinking that he would grab her but she wasn’t there. He was breathing heavily as he looked around the apartment. There was no one there. He whimpered as he pulled his knees into his body. She wasn’t there, she wasn’t there because she was inside of his head. Actually he wasn't sure if she was in his head or he was going insane because she was there. The fact that he didn't know was terrifying enough. |
