Emma had been having trouble since she returned. The problem started at home, then followed her here. Literally, Mark and Julian both arrived here within days of her return. She'd taken to avoiding both of them, but of course that meant spending most of her time in her room and going to the training room at odd hours--often waking Cristina to train with her because with Julian, her parabatai, it would be too awkward. Her best friend, her literal other half and it was too hard to see him.

Now Mark was asking to see her. She didn't know if he had decided to corner he about what had happened at home. Yes, it had been her idea, but her idea had been to pretend to date, just to make it convincing enough to make Julian stop loving her. Her idea hadn't been to actually date Mark. Yeah, it had occurred to her that if he hadn't been kidnapped and spent the last five years away, it was a possibility. But now, her feelings for Julian were too strong. She knew she'd never get over him, but unrequited love was apparently okay.

She shook that thought, Mark would be there any moment. She closed the Codex she had been reading--really, she had it memorized by now--and got out of bed, making it.

Mark had decided to try and move on. Knowing that Cristina had already done so hurt.

And when Emma had suggested they pretend to be in love to help Julian move on he realized it may not just be Julian who needed to move in. That's why he had decided to give it an authentic spin. He knew he needed to explain his reasoning to Emma. That's why he had called this meet up.

He knocked on her bedroom door. "Emma?"

Emma took a breath when she heard the knock and Mark's voice. She wasn't sure she was ready for this. She liked Mark, she did. Even if he was different from the Mark she once knew, he was still a part of the Blackthorns she had grown to see as family. The problem was, that in the last 5 years, her attraction had definitely turned to the person she couldn't have and she didn't know how to tell Mark that she didn't see him that way without telling him what was going on with Julian.

After a moment, she called out for him to come in, however. She knew she couldn't avoid him forever.

	Mark entered, feeling apprehensive. He sighed inwardly, refocusing on his purpose. "I owe you an explanation." He stated it like it was a fact, not an opinion. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"I do." Mark leaned against the back of her door. "I know that Julian is not the only one who needs to move on. All three of us do." He said solemnly. "My lover betrayed me, your love is forbidden, and Cristina...." He left that last part unfinished, not sure how to explain his feelings for her properly.

"If we're going to do this, we should make a real effort. For all of our sakes." He finished finally. Mark hoped he made sense, and that Emma would understand a bit better why he had worded things the way he had.

Emma didn't want to ask Mark how he knew about her feelings for Julian, because that would require admitting it. She thought that maybe the best way to make the notion potentially go away was to ignore it. She just simply raised her eyebrows, which could be taken a number of ways, really.

"I um... I suppose that makes sense," she said when he finished his explanation.

Emma bit her lip gently. She had told him it had to be convincing, well what was more convincing than actually dating? The problem was, it wouldn't be fair to Mark. She could never feel the way for him that she did for Julian. She was limited on what she could say, though without admitting her feelings for his brother.

"Mark, I don't feel that way for you," she said finally.
