There was a lot Steve could do with the hour's worth of time he had until he had to meet with James, but the soldier in him clicked into action. Every minute that passed was used carefully to inspect the place where they'd be meeting. He wanted to know every inch of the mansion that he could get to - every exit, window, door, nook and cranny. Not that he expected to have much to worry about. It wasn't as if he was unarmed. He had a knife and gun on his person since switching from his Soldier gear to civilian attire before he'd arrived in the alien place. Once he'd decided he'd had enough and that it was about time to get into position, he stood out behind the mansion with hands in his jacket pockets. There were a lot of questions running through his mind all too quickly. Strangely, it was a nice rush compared to the void that he usually felt. The instant he heard a footstep, Steve turned his head. For a second, he thought he heard a voice in his head. Finish the mission. His hand balled into a tight fist and he scowled as the person stepped into view. Steve was reminded of dragging the person he was staring at from the water, out from under the falling debris of the airship and - in turn - failing the mission he'd been given. But that didn't matter anymore. What mattered was that he needed to get some facts straight. "I wasn't sure you'd come." |
