Clarke was determined, and failure was not an option. She would get Lexa out. They would get Lexa out. She wasn't even thinking about the alternative. She couldn't, she had to focus on this. True, she and Bellamy hadn't experienced weather like this before, but that didn't mean she was giving up. They would succeed. Would Lexa have done this for Clarke? Probably not. Clarke, she knew that. But it didn't matter to her. All that mattered was saving Lexa and getting all of them back and warm. And hopefully Lexa would be more open to moving into town.
Fortunately, Bellamy was able to work on the tree faster than expected. Now all that was left was for Lexa to come out and they could make their way back to town. They'd be warm soon. And she hoped they'd all be okay. She'd never be able to forgive herself if something happened to Bellamy because he followed her out here on a fool's errand. She just didn't have it in her to leave the grounder out here alone. The other night, it had been cold, sure, but this was much worse.
"Thank you, Bell." Clarke told him, between the chattering of her own teeth. It wasn't enough. It could never be enough. She was so grateful that he'd come out here with her. She knew he didn't care about Lexa. But he knew she did and there was no way Bellamy would have let her do this alone. Though she would have tried, she didn't think she could do it alone.
She knelt down, extending a too cold hand into the cave to help pull Lexa out if needed. This was it, once Lexa was out, they could make it back to town and then this would just be a story they'd tell their people. Nothing bad was going to happen. She was so tired, as she tried to think about how warm it would be in Bell's room. No, she had to stay awake. They were almost home free.
