Clarke was trying not to focus on how cold she was. Only the mission mattered. They had to get Lexa out of her cave, and to a safe and warm place. She had to ignore the fact she was already wet and freezing, and she was shaking terribly. But she would not abandon the Grounder commander. She knew it was a huge risk even attempting this, she could lose limbs, even die. Or worse, Bell could. Clarke sucked in a breath of the icy cold air, nearly choking on it as she turned and nodded to Bellamy.
This was crazy, dangerous, and foolish. She was absolutely risking both of their lives to save Lexa. None of the others would have attempted this, probably. And anyone else who did, might have been doing it to gain favor with the Grounders. Not Clarke. She was doing it because she genuinely cared about Lexa. She didn't want to see her get hurt, despite everything.
Maybe her compassion would be her downfall, as it had ultimately been Jake's. For a moment she wished Bellamy had turned her down. She would rather do this alone or die trying. Losing Bellamy was not an option. She wanted to tell him to go back, but somehow she knew he wouldn't listen. There was no way he would let her attempt this alone.
Clarke had to be optimistic, dying out here wasn't an option. Losing Bellamy wasn't an option. Losing limbs wasn't either. And she damn sure wasn't going to let Lexa die alone out there. Despite the hazardous conditions they were facing, Clarke pushed forward. They could do this, they could make it. She tried to act like the cold didn't even both her, even as her teeth chattered. She picked up the pace, knowing the storm wasn't getting any better.
Their small window of opportunity to make it to Lexa and back was rapidly closing. Despite the cold, despite everything against her, Clarke pushed on. She sped up, and it wasn't long before they were in the forest. They were going to make it. They were all going to make it. The alternative was unthinkable.
