[Mary grins, knowing that she's getting a rise out of her brother because of the age issue here and it was something that she would continue to bug him about. Even if it had been years since she has seen her brother, it was still her job as his sister to be a pain in his ass.]
Uh-huh. Keep telling yourself that little brother. If you were intending on going swimming, you wouldn't have taken a board out with you. [Mary laughs. It feels good to laugh and joke with her brother.]
It's good to see you too Steve. [At Steve's subtle mention of their mother's death, Mary frowns. Mary was close with their mother and even though years had passed, she still hadn't coped with her death and the fact that their father shipped them both away like yesterday's trash made the problem worse.] It's been a few years for me. I'd like to say it gets better but it doesn't. It sucks. I miss mom.
[Mary shakes her head slightly when Steve looks away as she talks about their father. She knew that he had always sought their father's approval and he wouldn't likely ever speak ill of their father but Mary was different. She didn't care what her father thought of her or whether she had his approval. He lost the right to judge her the minute he shipped them away.] You know I'm right Steve. He doesn't care about us. He wouldn't have sent us away if he did.
