On TV- interview
[He's been getting bombarded with questions from fans and paparazzi to make a statement on his "cult"]
This is an official statement regarding my involvement with a "cult." I am a Christian man. I am an American man. I am a husband, and a father, and a farmer.
Now you may know me only from those movies where I'm playing some New-Aged Hollywood hunk, but that's not me. That's an act. I am a humble servant of God and I always have been from the day I was born and I will be 'till the day I die.
Where I was raised, we valued family and community and modesty- all things the Bible has always preached but things that got less convenient over time. What Ianhalder created was not some new thing. It's a comprehensive new interpretation of the same old text we've all been trying to follow since the beginning of time. One that values family, a personal relationship to God, and hard work over everything else. It's Protestant.
Anybody who gives a crap about this, about salvation, look at how Lutherans started, how Presbyterians started, hell, how Catholics and Jews and Muslims started. They all see a change they don't like in society, then they tap into their personal connection with God and make a format for their people to follow. They write their books and they make new churches and schools, then they make a way for everyone who sees the world their way to potentially reach salvation. That's all this is. In 100 years when half the town's converted they'll be looking back at us, the founders of this religion and pay homage the same way we do for Jesus's disciples.
The truth of the matter is, we're all sinners. Every last one of us. We all have greed and lust and pride in us and that's what stops us from truly seeing the word of God. It takes will power to get past that.
As the man of the house, I feel it's my responsibility to protect and teach my family. I want to teach my sons how to tend the land that was given to us and my daughters to prepare the food that's produced. I want my children to have a voice and respect for people who might know more than them. I want them to understand their roles in the world and the power that comes with it. I'm sick to my stomach thinking of all the corruption in this town and I won't subject my family to it anymore.
It's not a cult, it's a religion and a community. It's a family. It's a way of life- and I extend the offer to all of my fans, friends, hell- even my enemies. Come listen to a sermon and tell me it doesn't all make sense.
