After Kat had left the crew with Alex, she lived in fear. She was sure that they were going to be caught and put in prison because of what they'd done. Her fear seemed to multiple after Peyton's birth because Kat didn't want to leave her daughter behind.
It took a while for her to stop looking over her shoulder and to start trusting the people in Hastings. But she had to do it since Alex's business had taken off and everyone in town knew them. She had to stop being afraid and start excepting invitations to parties and the like. Of course she didn't go to every party they were invited to.
Soon they were celebrating their second wedding anniversary and Peyton was getting bigger. Kat made the decision to cut back on her hours at the hospital, knowing they had more than enough money. She just didn't like the fact her daughter was spending more time with strangers than with her.
Summer had came and went again and it was suddenly fall. Peyton's second birthday was only two days away and they'd decided to spend it in Kansas City with Alex's family.
"Want these!"
Kat looked down at the orange hi-tops Peyton was holding and nodded. "Get on the bed, then," she said.
Peyton, with some help from her mother, climbed on the bed and Kat sat next to her. "Excited about going to see grandma?" she asked.
"Yay!" the toddler said as she watched her mother put the shoes on her little feet and tie them.
Once the shoes were on, Kat picked up Peyton's brush and ran it through the little girl's hair. "Pigtails or a ponytail?" she asked.
"Pig!" Peyton answered. "Going on trip! No truck, mommy!"
Kat laughed and finished putting Peyton's hair into two pigtails. "Nope. We're taking my car. I don't think daddy's truck will make it that far," she said before picking Peyton up. She settled the little girl on her hip and carried her downstairs.
She looked around and saw Alex had already taken everything out to the car. Kat walked through the house to make sure everything was locked and shut off before she went outside.
"Mommy says your truck is icky, daddy!" Peyton announced.
Kat giggled. "I never said icky," she said before giving Alex a sweet smile.
