Either she had missed something behind her, or the clown had managed to strike gold with the right target. Shay glanced over her shoulder as another girl came around the corner. So maybe this place was scary, and she just wasn't in the mood. Or maybe she'd just stopped being scared of these things the older she could. Shay could recall being terrified of Haunted Houses as a young child. Apparently she had eventually got over that. Or maybe it was the shot of whiskey.
"Are you okay?" she asked, a slightly amused smile on her face. "I mean, was that you screaming or...?" It could have easily been someone else, but it had sounded pretty close, so Shay was assuming. She knew it was all just for fun, but some people got seriously scared in these things. You never knew. Technically a haunted house could easily become a walking hazard if someone got too scared.
Glancing past the girl, she checked to see if anyone was following, but no one else came rounding the corner right away.
