"Is it as weird to not be here as it is weird to not have you here?" The voice startled Anakin's ponderings, but it was a voice he was used to interrupting his mind's meanderings. It had been doing so ever since he'd arrived on Yavin IV at the age of 11. There was something familiar about that interruption and in the familiarity was a comfort of sorts and there was a lot that wasn't so comfortable these days. He turned away from the ship he'd been checking over and faced Tahiri and offered a shrug. "Maybe. Some days." "I keep thinking you're going to be in classes with me and then I go and you aren't. And you have no idea how boring drills are without you," Tahiri exclaimed. "I'm so ready to be done with my training and to be out there doing something like you and your brother and sister and just so many people. I'm here, and I have things I could add, but I'm just stuck here and I hate it. I want to be out there with you. We're way better as a team. Master Ikrit always said so." "Hey," Anakin gave her a lopsided grin. "It's not so bad - people aren't throwing poison staffs at you here. Count your blessings." "You sound like Master Solusar. And I don't like it from him either," Tahiri swatted at his arm. "We used to do things together and now you're off by yourself and you can't even be bothered to commiserate with me about my life stuck on this rock while the galaxy is in desperate need of Jedi to defend it!" Anakin frowned slightly and instead of responding he crossed to the ramp of the small yacht they'd be taking to Centerpoint and sat down on it, with a nod of his head telling Tahiri to join him. Truthfully he wanted Tahiri here. He was sympathetic-ish - to her desire to be out there. He'd felt it frequently enough, but at the same time he knew how dangerous it was out there. He had his whole family out fighting the Yuuzhan Vong, except his Father who he didn't even know where he was. He didn't need his best friend out there too. And while he somehow doubted the war was going to be over before Tahiri was to the point to be out there, he could keep her here relatively safe for as long as it was possible. Or at least, he wasn't going to complain about it. "All I want to do is help," Tahiri pointed out, taking his silence as she frequently did, as a sign she was supposed to keep talking. "I hate being here knowing that there are people who are dying from these invaders and I could do something about it. I could help. I could-" "Get killed?" Anakin interrupted her, a strange event for him since he usually just let the words run their course. It was an event strange enough that it took Tahiri almost a full sentence before she realized he'd spoken and when she did realize it, she stopped and stared at him. "You don't want me with you." The words were full of hurt and accusation. "You don't think I'm a good enough Jedi. You think that I don't know what I'm doing or that I'd slow you down. But you'll take a non-Jedi with you and she's not that much older than I am." "Wait, what?" Anakin turned to Tahiri confusion on his face. "First off, I know you know what you're doing. How many people have we helped together? It's not like that though, people who have known what they were doing have gotten hurt or killed. The Yuuzhan Vong are dangerous Tahiri. They're deadly. And secondly. What?" "Rikki. Your Aunt's relative or whatever she is. You and Jacen are taking her with you." "Because Uncle Luke asked her to accompany us," Anakin pointed out. "But she's not a Jedi. She's not trained at all. I saw her fighting Master Durron and I bet she wouldn't last five minutes against a Yuuzhan Vong." "I doubt that," Anakin responded practically. "Rikki's got really good fighting skills, I've trained with her on Coruscant-" "You what?" Tahiri looked furious and Anakin blinked. "She was living with Uncle Luke and Aunt Mara and she wanted training. And I told you that. Didn't I?" "You know what, obviously you don't have time to do anything with me because you're off saving the galaxy with her. Obviously you don't need me around in your life because you've found a new person to fight along side. Well fine Anakin Solo. Have a good flight." Anakin blinked, but she was already so far across the landing dock that it didn't make sense to try to go after her. Besides which, he really did have a flight to prep for. |
