There had been two instances in Lyric's life that he could remember someone standing up for him. First there was that night in an alley, a girl who could barely speak covered in bruises after taking on more than her fair share of the blows raining down on him. And now there was Jacen standing tall, looking at his father and standing by Lyric's side. Neither instance felt entirely real and they went against nearly everything that Lyric knew to be true about the galaxy and how it worked. But then again Jacen and Rikki didn't listen to the galaxy any more than Elix seemed to, bright stars that shown out in the pitch black. Even in the darkness of space Lyric was surrounded by the glow and warmth of Jacen's arms around him. Pressing a kiss to his lover's forehead, he pulled him close again and smiled at how Jacen seemed to just fit in his arms, pressed against his chest. No one else could possibly match this and Lyric had to admit he was a little drunk on Jacen Solo. "You're beautiful." he sighed against Jacen's skin, content and perfect in the moment. Jacen couldn't help the low chuckle that blossomed authentic in his chest at Lyric's words. He must be, was about all he could think, because Lyric had more than put up with his fair share of abuse and odd requests because of Jacen. But Lyric loved Jacen, and those words had given him strength and delight that Jacen had never imagined that three small words could so easily give him. His fingers splayed across Lyric's chest gently, resting quiet in the embrace of the man who loved him. The man who he loved. For a moment he lay comforted by the strength of the arms around him. Lyric had filled out a bit in the weeks of steady meals - even if some of them were military rations and protein bars - but even so Jacen could rest steady against Lyric's skin. He pushed himself up, leaving one hand against Lyric's bare chest, but looking down on the man sharing the bunk with him, and a smile crossed his lips. He had told his father, his mother, but he hadn't really said it to Lyric - not directly. Not like this when he was wrapped in warmth and could see the way the light caught in Lyric's dark eyes. Not when he could reach out and trace those fine cheekbones up into curly hair that Jacen loved to run his fingers through. "I love you," he said softly, seriously. Lyric fell back easily, watching Jacen with warmth and amusement. He was beautiful, rising up in the soft light of the room that seemed to more outline him than anything. It was such a strange joy to just fall into Jacen's touch, to follow the guidance even outside of passion and lust. Above him was a man who he had taken the time to memorize every bit of, keeping those memories close and hoping to add endless more to them. Raising an eyebrow quickly, Lyric allowed himself a lazy quirk of a smile. "You do?" he chuckled, the laughter and happiness deep in his chest. "I'd never guessed." Jacen's lips quirked up gently and he looked down at Lyric. Everything about Lyric made him just want to pull Lyric into his arms and never let him go. "You know, I think I've mentioned it to everyone but you," he said softly. It was an apology, and maybe an acknowledgement of everything else that had happened to them in the past twenty-four hours. Between the port, the poor decision making, Lyric's declaration of love, and then Jacen's own father's confrontation of them - it hadn't come out how Jacen would have intended to tell him. But he meant it regardless. "I thought perhaps I should say it directly to the man involved." He looked down, suddenly a little shy. Lyric had never expected to hear those words in his life, not like this. People like him, they disappeared. They weren't the ones people looked for and in the back of his mind he had unintentionally resigned himself to the fact that one day it would be Elix trying to track down what happened to him and eventually just knowing he had fallen to the Undercity like so many before. People like Elix, people like Jacen, they were meant for greater things and Lyric only watched them from afar. Somehow Jacen had seen him though, seen him for more than a quick grab at pleasure and apparently being worth shining his light on. So Lyric simply smiled up at him, in awe at the man above him. Jacen was everything that Lyric never dared to hope for and somehow, by some quirk of the Galaxy, Jacen loved him just as much. The moment drew longer in Lyrics silence before he reached up, running his fingers gently along Jacens cheek to draw him down. But they had never just been one or the other, so Lyric pushed himself up to meet Jacen halfway and press a warm kiss to his lips, the smile never leaving his own. Jacen returned the kiss gently, his lips warm against Lyric's, as they met, affirmed, and returned Lyric's affection. Everything about Lyric had turned out to be different than what Jacen believed he was getting into. Far beyond the immediate need they'd both had, he had somehow found a friend as well and Jacen didn't know what he'd done to deserve that. It was like opening a box and finding that it contained treasure beyond the value of the box itself. He pulled back long enough to take a breath, a breath that was all Lyric and he breathed out so content despite the mess that had happened earlier. "When I'm with you I feel like I could face anything," he said softly, before running a thumb along the edge of Lyric's cheek and leaning back in for another soft kiss. "I think for you I would face anything." "Those are some pretty bold words." Lyric sighed happily against Jacens lips. They were promises that from any other person in the Galaxy would be meaningless. But from Jacen somehow Lyric believed every word. This man who put the entire galaxy on his shoulders somehow wanted to place Lyric on equal importance. Lyric ran his fingers into Jacen's hair, drowning happily. "I guess that means I'll have to stick close." Lyric offered playfully before pulling him back down in the bunk. "You're stuck with me." "I don't know if I can handle that," Jacen teased, even as his stomach flipped at the touch of Lyric's fingers against his scalp. It felt like bliss. Like something too precious to really be given without a thousand drawbacks. Perhaps his parents attitude was one of those. No, not his parents -- Well, he didn't think it was plural. It was his father that had looked at him as if he was embarrassed to be related. His mother hadn't said much of anything but he hadn't felt condemnation exactly... Uncertainty maybe? He buried his face in Lyric's shoulder trying to put away for the moment any uncertainty about facing them tomorrow. He had never met his father's approval and Jacen knew it. It was hard to not know it. His father didn't understand him at best and Jacen was an embarrassment at worst. He would face anything for the man beside him and Jacen knew that absolutely. If one of those things was his father's disapproval than Jacen would hold his head up and take it on. What he had with Lyric was precious. It was the sort of thing that you didn't just get handed without the responsibility to take care of it and protect it and nurture it. He could feel Lyric breathing under him, his heart beating softly, they were alive together and it meant everything. There was nothing to be embarrassed of here. "I'm glad you came with me," he said softly. "I'm glad you kept me." "I'm glad you saw me." Lyric sighed gently, his fingers making soft circles against Jacen's scalp to settle him. This evening hadn't been ideal but then again Lyric couldn't regret a moment of it. Even if Han decided to somehow airlock him when Jacen wasn't paying attention at least he had this, had the love and want of this man in his arms. How could he regret the warmth and affection that he felt or the calm that settled over him just from getting to hold Jacen? Han Solo couldn't take that away from him and for once in Lyric's life he had something that was maybe worth dying for that wasn't Elix. But what he had with Jacen could extend to Elix as well. They could be a family, one day, a real family. "I'll follow you to the ends of the galaxy, Princess." Jacen leaned into Lyric, to catch his lips and press them gently. There was nothing that compared to the complete warmth that he felt when he was surrounded by Lyric. He shifted, pulling himself down into the crook of Lyric's arm, his arm across Lyric's chest gently - something calm, simple, and completely different than the two other times they had found each other today. But that was just how things worked with Lyric, one moment he was trying something he would have never tried with anyone else, and the next he was feeling like he was home. "I'll try to make it not that complicated," Jacen said with a smile against Lyric's chest. He pressed his lips gently to that chest and raised his eyes to Lyric with a smile. "Unless you're going to get off on the challenge and then by all means, the ends of the galaxy it'll be." "You know how much I love ships." Lyric sighed quietly as he looked down at Jacen with a small, private smile. It didn't matter how much he hated being in space, all the travel, the danger, as long as he was following Jacen then it all seemed to mean something. Jacen gave everything meaning and maybe that should have frightened him but instead it simply left him warm. For now though Jacen fit against him as if he was always meant to be there. And maybe he was. Maybe Lyric had spent his life searching for Jacen Solo, having no idea that the person who seemed to complete him was levels above him. His hand strayed down to Jacen's jaw, tracing it gently to add more well loved memories. Jacen's lips formed a quick smile at Lyric's words. Jacen knew how little Lyric liked the ship and he suspected that Lyric missed the life he'd known, even if it wasn't exactly posh or settled, more than Lyric was admitting too. As Lyric's fingers found his jawline, Jacen closed his eyes and leaned into the touch and he dared to dream of peace. Maybe there would be a time when he wasn't being hunted and where the Galaxy was not teetering on the brink of destruction. Maybe someday he could find himself wrapped in Lyric like this but in their own apartment or their own home of some sort. It would be theirs, together. Elix would have her own space, Jacen would be able to study the Force, and in a dream that seemed too wild to really be true, perhaps his parents wouldn't hate the choices he was making. "They'll come around," he said out loud though his words were soft. He reached up to cover Lyric's hand in his. "You're beautiful, and you make me so happy. They'll come to see that, Lyric." Lyric wasn't sure if Jacen's hope would actually come true. The Solo parents seemed to be rather set, even if Jacen's mother seemed to be trying to understand in her own way. Really right now it didn't matter because he had Jacen and all he would ever need is Jacen Solo by his side. Whatever would come, whatever would follow them, Lyric was all right with facing it while holding Jacen's hand. So he watched Jacen, warm and happy even with the disapproval they faced. Because even with that Jacen stood by him and hadn't abandoned him, he mattered to Jacen. "I love you, so much." he offered gently, content to have Jacen resting against him. Really, it was all Jacen needed from Lyric. Somehow Lyric had accepted him. He'd believed in Jacen even if he didn't understand everything, and that had been something that Jacen had needed desperately. It was a gift greater than Lyric would probably ever know. He pressed his lips gently to Lyric's skin as the contentedness and relaxation began to drift into sleep. Before Lyric had laid next to him, Jacen felt as if he had never slept. But for all the danger they found themselves in out here in space Jacen slept more consistently and woke more rested with Lyric next to him. His eyes fluttered closed for a moment, listening to Lyric's heart-beat. "This is home," he murmured softly against Lyric's chest. At least he was certain that this acceptance and love and want was what home should feel like. And somehow he had found it in a boy from the Undercity. Then again, his family had a history of finding love in odd places he supposed. "You are my home and I'm keeping you too." |
