Bones recognized the look; he'd seen dozens of doctors rearranging their faces before entering a patient's room. Unfortunately, as Bones looked around the room, others weren't so good at hiding their emotions. This Dehner woman was going to have a hell of a time with the crew. On leave, between the ceremonies, funerals, and hangovers, Bones had damn near memorized the medical bios of the Enterprise crew. It was a parade of broken families, youthful follies, and personal ambition that left Bones more than a little nervous. Dehner should be downright terrified, if she had any sense about her. He could understand why Command would want someone to come make sure none of them had well and truly snapped.
Not that she'd get anything out of most of the officers who'd been on Enterprise during the "incident" (Bones still clenched his teeth whenever that particular descriptor was used-- incident his ass, he'd show them incident); if Dehner expected them to open up, she had an excruciating mission ahead of her. She stood up there wearing her doctor's expression like a shield while Spock described the situation like he had starfish inserted up his backside. Bones could already tell he was going to help her. It was a weakness of his to come to the defense of the underdog; the worse the odds, the harder he fought.
Moving purposefully through the dismissed officers, Bones approached the fellow doctor. "Doctor Dehner, I'm Leonard McCoy." He shook her hand firmly, and with as much warmth as he could manage. "Have they shown you your quarters yet?"
