Kevin had slipped in at the very beginning of the speech from Spock, just coming from getting ready for his shift when the assembly was called. He should’ve stayed out and listened to the recording, but it wasn’t every day that half the crew was asked to drop what they were doing for a mere announcement.
All he could do was roll his eyes. If anyone knew something of Starfleet and their psych-tests it was Riley, and he loathed them with a passion. It wasn’t that they were pointless, maybe they served some overall purpose, but they didn’t really do anything helpful and you really could tell when the questions were loaded. Like they want you to mess up. He just couldn’t handle that.
After the dismissal and subsequent outbreak of quiet conversations of officers breaking off to return to whatever it was they were doing, Riley couldn’t help but casually say, "You’d think they didn’t prepare us for this over the last 4 years," to no one in particular.
