And Topher would NOT be the stereotypical Risian who just went for stuff that he found attractive and shiny. It wasn't even true most of the time, that was just the reputation they'd managed to get and he had never appreciated it. So he was grateful really, when the conversation turned from awkward pauses and glances to a real conversation and about things he could talk about in his sleep.
"It's sort of a long story, but when I'm not doing general work," He'd been trained in several kinds at the academy, "I'm actually all about hybrid races." Which sounded a little bit egotistical, so he figured he'd better explain that. "You wouldn't believe how screwed up anatomy can get between species." he explained. "All the stuff you have to calibrate and deal with, all the things that a doctor could accidentally kill somebody with, how viruses evolve..."
And now Topher was grinning for a different reason and his eyes were taking on the half glazed look of someone who is really, really into what he does. "So mostly developing procedures, drugs and other ways to map the differences before the doctors go in to treat someone with mixed heritage." He explained. "Of course right now, I go with what they give me to do, but," He grinned. "There's a few experiments of my own I'm probably going to wind up running in the downtimes."
And that was enough about Topher for now, so it was time to ask Sebastian a question that also wasn't a come on. "So, let's hear a little more about you. Why security?" he wondered curiously. "No offense or anything, you're good at what you do," He'd seen that earlier. "I'm just curious."
