“Ms. Menides speaking.”
"Ms. Menides, good afternoon. This is Blake Hartley. We met last month. My ward, Ashton, is attending your school."
“Good evening, Mr. Hartley. How do you do?”
"I'm concerned, truth be told. This morning I received a letter from Ashton in which he states that himself and a boy he names only as Trent have been down to a bar in the human settlement drinking beer. Now, I don't need to inform you of the dangers a dragon under the influence of alcohol might pose. Much less one as young and inexperienced as Celebrimbor. My first instinct was to rethink my decision on leaving him alive to begin with. I hope you understand, Ms. Menides, that it goes against all my Order stands for to knowingly let him exist.
But...
I also know with whom I've entrusted him. I firmly believe that if anyone can help reshape him against his nature, build him up from the clean slate he's at already with no deaths on his hands, it's you and your school. You've done it before. It can be done again.
So I'm calling, in good confidence, in hopes that something can be done to stop that from ever happening. The moment Celebrimbor kills for the first time, I'll have no choice but to end him."
“I understand your concerns, Mr. Hartley. And I’d like to… thank you for the faith you have in our institution. Now, you want Ashton to be integrated in human society, don’t you? You want him to care about human life?”
"Yes, of course. Ideally I'd like for him to value all forms of life, particularly given his element. But I don't think that going to a bar with a teenager and drinking beer is very prudent for a dragon his age."
“I see. And at what age would you find it prudent behavior for your ward?”
"Heh. Ms. Menides, at no age should a dragon be drunk in a human settlement. Please, if you have some greater wisdom in this, I'd love to hear it."
“You want your ward to care for humans. One way to achieve that is to let him make friends, to let him actually care about individuals, to let him grow familiar with humans beings and other supernaturals so that he can appreciate them. Now, despite his… draconic side, Mr. Hartley is mentally barely anything more than a teenager, but he is intelligent and curious. That curiosity is his saving grace, Mr. Hartley. It allows him to connect with his peers, perhaps even befriend them. And, alas, one of the ways in which teenagers connect is through evading authority, through having an illicit beer in a dive bar. I shall serve both Mr. Hartley and Mr. Kane with detention, but I would like to remind you that a potential friendship might do a lot more for young Mr. Hartley than strictly enforcing all kinds of restrictions. Do you understand?”
"[...] Yes, I suppose you're right. I shall place my trust in your knowledge on these matters. Unfortunately teenagers aren't my expertise. Killing dragons, on the other hand...
Very well, Ms. Menides."
“Oh, and Mr. Hartley? Are you familiar with Greek mythology?”
"Yes, somewhat. Why?"
“Do you know what I am? Do you know why my kind are sometimes called ‘The Kindly Ones’?”
"...I know what you are. I chose your school specifically."
“Then know this: I do not take threats towards my students kindly. Next time you decide to threaten one of my students without any reason, know that I can and will follow you to the end of the earth to exact retribution, should you deserve it. We know where you live. We will always know where you live. Understood?”
"I see. Yes, noted, Ms. Menides."
“Anything else, Mr. Hartley?”
"That was my only concern at this time."
“Then I wish you a pleasant day. Goodbye.”
