Andrei had been hanging out in the Hydra dorm, playing some easy-going poker with some buddies. They were guys, just like him, who enjoyed a quiet game with minimal distractions. Andrei wasn't the best poker player -- he gambled too easily, on hands that were too low -- but he could bluff very well, which meant he usually made it pretty far.
He was feeling pretty good. He hadn't won his five bucks back, but it had been a quiet night. He could get used to this 'no classes thing'.
There are things any vampire notices. Someone walking alone at night is always one of them. Potential prey. Andrei noticed, but intended to ignore it. He didn't feed on school grounds -- not on strangers anyway. But then he saw someone trailing after the girl, someone who was obviously hunting. Andrei didn't recognize him, but not many things hunted in human form like that. Could be a vampire. A stupid one. Nobody needed the school to crack down on vampire security.
Quiet as a shadow, Andrei intercepted the attacker. Just as James pounced, Andrei came in from the side, rolling them into the bushes. The girl heard the sound, turned, and saw nothing. She walked on, and Andrei released James' mouth. "Be quiet," he said. "The hell do you think you're doin'?"
