Thread: Gilligan's Gala
WHO: OPEN to all
WHEN: Friday the 6th, evening
WHERE: The School Ballroom

As the parent of all the graduates had been herded of the school grounds, six French doors, two stories high, were opened, letting in the warm summer air. The path to these doors was marked by tiki torches. The doors led to the school ballroom, a remnant of older times, which was rarely used. It was a large, spacious room, with crystal chandeliers, a black marble floor and walls with ornate wood panelling. This night, it had been transformed.

The eye catcher was, of course, the indoor waterfall, surrounded by a fake rock wall, covered in plants, ferns and palm trees and lit up with colorful lights. From it spawned forth a small, indoor pool, the water no higher than most people's ankles. Students had been encouraged to wear footwear that was easy to slip in and out of, so they could wade in, if they wanted. Lining the walls, there were more palm trees and long tables, laden with snacks, fruit and mocktails served in tall glasses and hollowed out coconut shells. Behind the waterfall, there was an elaborate tropical set up, where students could have their pictures taken.

There was a dancefloor, of course, and a DJ had been hired, playing salsa, top 40 and island tunes. Freely available, there were towels, flower leis and small cannisters filled with bubble solutions.

Ms. Menides stood by one of the tables, beaming proudly at the room. She was wearing a white summer dress, coupled with large bracelets and a long, thin, silver necklace. Elegant, but not too formal. Her hair seemed curlier and her face younger. Graduation was both the best and the worst day of the year. She smiled, however, because the room looked amazing. Sometimes, there were perks to running a magical school.

Time to get the party started.

Caleb and Davian

Davian just shrugged at the petulant child comment, and he smiled at Caleb. "Ouch. Hurt my feelings, why don't you." With a roll of his eyes, he looked forward again, watching the other students as he swung his legs over the side of the table, back and forth.

His smile faded quickly into a frown when Caleb told him he did, in fact, want to go to Ambriel. "You don't know sh-- Shit!" he hopped off the table when he felt the red punch soak into his pants, shaking his hands and flinging droplets out as he shot a glare at Caleb. "Worth his time?" he demanded, the words stinging more than he wanted Caleb to know. He only wanted to sting back. "What, you're too good for me, Taylor Swift? Last I checked, you were just as shitty a person as me with no place to go but down."

So there were barbs that were still capable of getting through Davian's thick demon skin. "You dumped the drinks," Caleb said nonchalantly, taking the chance to mop up the table. Davian really had made a big mess but the pleasure he was getting from the demon's behavior was enough to quell the silly spill.

"You've already called me Taylor Swift once. I thought you'd move on to Justin Beiber....unless that would make me a Bebliever, then the angel may have a convert." Once the drinks were cleaned, Caleb picked up the turned over cups and threw them in the garbage.

Once done, he steadied his eyes on Davian. "I was loved, Davian. My mother was naturally flawed, and so am I, but she loved me with a fierceness that would scare you. She and I may both be half a soul away from you, but that's enough to still make us different."

Caleb smiled to himself as he poured more cups to replace the ones knocked over. "Davian, are you ever scared that you'll never know?"

"Whatever," Davian said about the recycled name, finding a stack of napkins to try halfheartedly to dry his pants a little. His movements came to a halt when Caleb mentioned the angel again, saying he'd follow his ridiculous tirade about god, or even that insinuation that Caleb would follow the angel himself. "Like fuck you are." A hot stab of jealousy rippled through him each time Caleb had mentioned Ambriel in the past and even now he wanted to step in the way of Caleb's proverbial view of him.

"Your mommy loved you, isn't that sweet and so original," he scoffed, tossing the napkins on the table before crossing his arms over his chest. "What about your daddy, Caleb? Huh? Did he 'love' you, too?" Davian snickered. Caleb was, for all intents and purposes, the closest thing Davian had to a friend. In the way demons made friends and the way Davian had been treated all his life, the half-siren boy was generous with his opinions when they talked and he hadn't yet tried to either kill him or sleep with him - even while Davian had tried to hedge around the latter. Still, he was that person for Davian, and the demon showed it in the only way a demon should. By acting like an ass.

"Know what?" he scowled, tail swaying with a bit of an agitated tick in the tip of it.

"A bit of soda water will help. Unfortunately, all I have is punch." Caleb couldn't help but be slightly helpful, even when he knew it would just irritate Davian more. "You really should watch your language There are young people here and I'm sure Ambriel doesn't appreciate the cursing."

Caleb smiled, knowing that his mother did indeed love him, with her entire heart. She kept him safe and held on as long as she possibly could. His heart swelled at the memory, but knew that Davian wouldn't understand it.

"Know what love is," Caleb answered softly, still filling up cups. "You can mock me and degrade me and feel like you're better than me but I've been loved, Davian. I've been loved in the purest form. Turn it as you will in your mind, but if I never find love again, at least I'll know what it was when I'm only middle-aged and die, taking the siren with me."

He gingerly poured a fresh cup and set it by Davian's leg, sliding it across the table. "When your anger leaves you, maybe we can talk again."

"You really should watch your language," Davian mimicked Caleb in a mocking voice, a proper petulant child. "Well you know what? Fuck what Ambriel thinks! And fuck you, and fuck love, and fuuuck I need a smoke."

Jaw clenched and angry not only because Caleb tried to make him care what the angel thought of his behavior - or call him out for caring, rather - but also because Davian knew he was right, he'd never been loved and he'd never loved another. He likely never would. Demons didn't love, or so the books said and so he'd been led to believe from his family back in Vegas. Then why did the fact that he'd never known real love bother him so much?

He glared at Caleb with the suggestion that they could talk later, when he wasn't angry, and swatted the cup the siren boy had put beside him so that the punch would splatter back towards Caleb. "Whatever. Enjoy servant duty, jackass." Davian growled before turning to stalk away and find the nearest exit or dark corner so he could light one up.

The tantrum did end up getting Davian's desired result - a few drops of the punch bounced off the table and onto the bottom of Caleb's shirt. He frowned at that, but knew better than to make a big deal about it. It seemed to him that Davian was having a bit of a meltdown and he was sure he'd never seen the other so...vulnerable.

"Goodbye, Davian," Caleb said softly to the demon's back just before he walked outside. Caleb sighed and cleaned up yet another mess courtesy of Davian.
