Who: Annabelle Keely & Trent Kane
When: Saturday 02 November, Night, 11pm roughly
Where: The Forest
Anna’s back had been so sore since she came to the school. She’d never had to keep her wings in for such a long time and whilst she never used them, it still hurt to keep them trapped as they were underneath the skin, hidden under a simple glamour. She’d thought about letting them loose a few times, but her father’s words haunted her about the terrible things people might do to her if they knew of her heritage and her blood. She’d nearly been caught out in class earlier; she’d got a paper cut and the green had started to well in her finger before she stuck it in her mouth to disguise the colour of her blood. She had hoped that no one had noticed, but she had felt eyes on her recently, she was pretty sure that they were Trent’s eyes, considering. She wondered if he was concerned because she seemed to be in pain - like Darius - or if he was curious as to why.
She pushed her fingers through her hair and adjusted how her hooded shirt was sitting as she slid out of the dorm rooms and away from House Kitsune, breathing a sigh of relief as the building fell away behind her. She stepped a little further out, into the wooded area, fingertips brushing over an old Oak tree as she did, feeling the tension in her body draining out of her as she was welcomed into the forest that many found intimidating like an old friend. It seemed to just welcome her as one of its own.
Once she felt she was far enough away from prying eyes, she tugged off her hoodie, hair falling loose around her shoulders and curling around her face, revealing the low-backed tank top she was wearing. In the cool of the evening, the hair on her arms stood on end, but she was able to ignore it for the most part as her back was exposed to the cold air and it felt good, the cool breeze against her hot, sore skin. Between her shoulder blades on either side of her spine were two nodules, almost curved and triangular in shape that looked sort of swollen, like lumps coming out of her spine. They were red in that sort of way that body parts were when they were suffering from chafing or soreness and were exactly in the place where her back would rest against a chair if she were ever to lean back. Perhaps these were the reason she never did. Not that there was anyone to see, and not that anyone noticed - or so she thought.
With a slow, deep breath, Annabelle Keely stretched her arms above her head, releasing the tension in the muscles across her shoulders and upper back before the buds between her shoulder blades swelled a little bigger before, slowly, something unfurled from those buds, like a butterfly from a cocoon for the first time, her wings slowly unfolded, large and silvery like those of a dragon fly, crooked at the top like they’d been folded for too long, they hesitantly opened and stretched, fluttering a few times as they extended above her head and almost skirting the floor.
Anna had her eyes closed, face twisted in a grimace of pain as the wings stretched upwards and outwards, the sharp ache that bothered her all the time was suddenly present and overwhelming and caused tears to spring to her eyes as her wings protested at the movement after having been locked in position for nearly a month.
She rested her hand against a nearby tree, her wings giving another flutter that caused her to have to press her other hand against her mouth to muffle the pained sound that wanted to escape, a small amount of glittery dust fluttering to the ground being caught in the moonlight as it drifted to the ground.
Thank fuck she was alone right now.
