Pausing in his chants when Valentin arrived, Leon looked up and angled his head slightly, watching how the vampire looked at, and then away from the rabbit meat cooking. "Do you really want to know? It didn't suffer," he assured him.
Smudging out the incense, Leon let it cool for a moment while he gathered up the rest of his small ritual items. The berry snacks they'd found that had been edible and some different kinds of roots harvested on the way had sustained them on the way, but Leon knew if he, at least, was expected to go at full strength the next day, then the rabbit meat was essential. Still, he was sensitive enough not to rub it in Valentin's face. He only hoped the vampire brought his own blood supply. The blood from the rabbit wasn't much, but Leon had saved it just in case Valentin got hungry enough. It would probably be a bad thing if they had a hungry vampire on their hands, and Leon knew he was fairly recently turned. He couldn't imagine what that would have been like for a vegetarian.
The rabbit was done cooking the next time Leon checked it and he offered a smile to Alec, "I'd offer you a plate and napkin, but I think we left them back at St. Margaret's." He did divide up the rabbit meat, however, laying them on a clean piece of cloth with some wild herbs.
