Cheyenne didn’t want to hear all that. She didn’t actually want to know why Talyssa was so weird. That meant she became humanized, became a person that Cheyenne couldn’t so easily dismiss and avoid, all in the name of popularity. Deep down, Cheyenne was empathetic enough to feel for other people’s situations. She’d come from Hades, but grew up on an island of rehabilitating rare supernatural animals who were being hunted and hurt.
As Talyssa continued, a fire kindled in Cheyenne’s heart for her. One that was both bleeding for what the girl had been made to suffer, and burning with a consuming fury at what someone else had done to her. How dare they. How dare they harm one of us! Cheyenne’s cheeks became flushed with anger as it overrode her need to be one of the popular girls and before she had really had time to think about what she was doing, she leaned in and kissed Talyssa.
They were already sitting very close, so it was an easy jump to make. Cheyenne kissed her fiercely with an edge of protective assertion. Talyssa needed looking after and Cheyenne had grown up taking care of those kinds of beings. But what would Gilderoi say? What about Madison and Alyson? Would they mock her too now?
Cheyenne’s anger flared again. Who cares? They weren’t there to see this. And they’d never have to know.
Reaching up, Cheyenne’s hand came to slide into Talyssa’s hair. Kissing a girl was, so far, so different than the last time she’d tried it. It felt better. It felt right. In their quiet corner of the library, kissing Talyssa felt good.
