Van put a hand on Gil's thigh to try comforting him. He also had not seen Gil look so defeated. Normally Gil just got angry when things didn't go his way. This was different and Van didn't like it. He couldn't help the anger that built towards John as a result. John was causing his boyfriend to feel this way.
Leon frowned and leaned forward, elbows on his knees. "You don't need drugs either, John. You think you do, because they make you feel good, but they're only messing with your brain to make you think you can do what you already know how to do better. The drugs don't give you power. You give you power. The coke is only fucking with your head, damaging your self-confidence. Look--"
Leon stood and crossed to John, crouching to sit on his heels in front of his brother. "I know you've felt like you've been living in my shadow all your life. Like you'd never be as good as me or do as much as me." He reached out to touch John's hands, seeking and holding his eyes. "But that's all imaginary. There is no better or worse. There's only different. And now-- now I can't do any magic at all. You're the one who has to carry on. Mother isn't having any more sons or daughters to pass on the skill. It's all on you. Right now you are the most powerful witch in the family. And you're letting that drug ruin everything."
