The party had sort of spontaneously come together. There had been some leftovers from Gil and Van's previous party and the elf had put in a quick order to order some drinks and food. Since the party would be held right under Mr. Cavanaugh's nose, Gil thought the better of ordering alcohol - the faculty sometimes turned a blind eye to parties, but the strict banshee would never allow such indiscretions right in his own dormitory. Of course, some people still brought some of their own, but as soon as they started passing it around, Gil whispered at them to quit it and/or be careful.
Since both Natália and Gil belonged to House Sphinx, it seemed natural for the celebration to be held here. The common room of the dormitory had rapidly filled up, and people had spead to the hallways and the kitchen as well. He saw Mr. Cavanaugh animatedly talking to some of the Standards, beaming with pride when he nodded at Gil.
There was a spark of joy in Gil's belly. Their father rarely showed he was proud of his sons and never openly.
Momentarily confused by his feelings, the elf looked for something to distract him. He saw Hayden, who was just disentangling himself from a conversation. He looked ever the graceful loser. Gil followed him into the hallway, which was less crowded. "You gave me quite the run for my money," Gil said. "I really thought you would win."
