Thread: Election Day WHO: Everyone WHEN: Friday WHERE: Auditorium
Election day was here. Students were guided to the school auditorium, piling into the seats there and filling the space with chatter while they waited for everyone to join them. The assembly was nothing new in terms of the election. Students would gather there, candidates would give their final speeches, and then everyone would be guided toward the rooms where they would cast their votes.
Rafe would be lying if he said this year didn't come with a new sort of energy. Last year's election was pretty lowkey. It was quiet even. The campainging was sullen for the most part and nobody had any real interest in the candidates. Those who ran and won didn't really do much. The elctions were an afterthought but nothing more. This year there was a buzz of excitement but also tension.
He watched as the doors closed and the teachers took their seats. Upon the stage were a row of chairs with the candidates seated in them. He sat among them too, along with Ms. Menides and a few other select staff. When it was time to start, he rose from his chair, as he had volunteered to take charge of this whole affair, and went to the podium.
"Welcome students and staff," he said, his voice deep, rich, and coming out of all the speakers so everyone could hear him. The crowd quieted with a few off-color comments thrown in before they were shushed and he could begin the assembly.
"As you know, today is election day. We are hosting this assembly to allow your candidates to address you and give their final say before you go and cast your vote. Votes are paper and you can write in names should you so desire. The ablity to cast a vote which has so direct an impact on the election is a rare. I know many of you have no desire to hear a lecture about the importance of civic duty and voting, but allow me to say this:
"Many places around the world do not allow the people to have a voice. I encourage you to take this matter seriously. You may not be voting for the president of a country, but you are voting for individuals you feel will best represent your needs and desires.
"With that said, we will hear from the candidates for Tresurer first, then Secretary, Vice President, and finally the candidates for President. Please remain quiet for the duration of their speeches.
"Best of luck to all of our candidates. We will announce the winners before the end of the day," Rafe said and then excused himself to sit in the chair as the first student went up to speak.
