Log: Crime and Punishment WHO: Liam Cabot and Micah Kaden WHEN: Aug. 8, late morning WHERE: Kaden's Office, Ladon dorm OOC: Completed in Hangouts, pardon the formatting.
Liam arrived at Kaden's office. Kaden sat there grumping over some stacks of paperwork for new students. He jerked his chin at the chair for Liam to sit his ass in. Liam sat his ass in the chair, bracing himself. Micah made him wait a few more minutes before finally closing his laptop. He leveled a look at him, "Before I tell you how this is going to go down, have you got anything to say for yourself?"
"No, sir."
Micah sighed and leaned back, his chair creaking: "Alright, then. For that stunt you pulled with your crew and Van, you've already served dungeon detention, but I don't feel like that was enough to convince you not to ever do something like that again. So I've been in contact with the coach in Camden. You're off the team this season. We'll see about next year."
Liam clenched his jaw and opened his mouth to say something but clamped up, "Understood. Sir."
Micah's eyes narrowed. "What was that? You got something to say, Liam? By all means," he spread his arms wide, "this is the time and the place to say it."
Liam paused, staring holes into the floor, "No. Sir."
Micah stood up abruptly, but then slowly walked around his desk to come sit on the front of it. The furniture creaked again under his mass of weight, "Until I know I can trust you again, you'll be spending the full moon nights in the dungeons, for the safety of the other students." He crossed his thick arms over his chest.
Liam's gaze shot up, "What the fuck?"
"Excuse me?"
"That's bull! I know how to be a were. I bit him because I knew he wasn't going to turn!"
"This isn't about turning," Micah's voice boomed.
"Then what is it about? Because throwing me into the dungeon during a full moon acts like I'm gonna be biting every single person who pisses me off."
"Aren't you? The responsibility to prove otherwise lies in your hands, Liam. By the spirits! You instigated a brawl in a busy hallway that could've easily gone even worse and injured - if not killed - dozens of students. As far as the school is concerned, you're a menace and it's a miracle Menides is letting you come back this year at all."
Liam glared, "Then kick me out if I'm such a menace. I'm not some orphan you guys adopted. So there's no point in keeping me around if i'm such a bad influence. Wouldn't be bad PR either, right?"
Micah leaned in and growled, "Believe me, if it was up to me, you'd be gone." He leaned back with a short pause. "But the Headmistress has spoken. And she's opened my eyes to some problems in your home life that most likely contributed to your behavior."
Liam's glare intensified, "Fuck. You. Sir."
Micah grabbed him by the shirt and hauled him easily to his feet, pulling him in close to his face, "This is the treatment you're used to, right? The answer to everything is to use force, violence. You wouldn't be surprised if I were to hit you right now, would you?"
Liam glared,"No. Sir. Go ahead. Do it. I don't see a difference between you and my old man."
Micah smiled and let go. "That's what I thought you'd say. That's how you were raised. But I'm not your father and I know you aren't either." He stepped back and sighed, "After talking with Menides, I want to help you, Liam. I want to help you be better, do more with your life than become another version of your dad. But first I need to know you're going to be invested in your own future. And you're going to prove that or not prove that by serving these detentions and finding better outlets for your anger."
Liam had a moment of surprise and his anger cooled, but only a little. "I have no reason to trust you, so I have no reason to earn your trust."
"You think you know me because my dad knocks me around? You know nothing."
"I'm not here to be your favorite teacher. It's not my job to be the most popular. I'm here to help my students in Ladon and if that means you won't trust me, so be it. But you will be serving these detentions and I hope you take this seriously. Not for me to feel like patting myself on the back. For you."
"I'll believe it when I see it. Youse guys are doing a swell job with Van."
Micah shrugged and moved around to his seat again, easing down, "In addition to being off the city football team and spending full moons in the dungeon, you'll be meeting twice a week with Mr. Hartley for one on one self-defense training. That's all." He dismissed with a nod at the door and opened his laptop again.
"Yeah. That's what I thought. I'm the menace when he's the one who says your girlfriend is biased because she's sleeping with a were and he's been at the center of three separate fights. Guess I should go get myself orphaned and that'll earn me some special treatment." Liam stormed out.
