The Ren Fest Part 3
Pavel couldn’t help but laugh. “That is bad joke.” He shook his head. “But maybe I can get wolf for Adri, for Christmas.” He mused, looking at the critters. “Look, there is dragon. You think Ryu would like? It not very soft though…” But maybe a gift for the child would make her happy and do something to put him in better standing with Mr. Hartley who always seemed very abrasive to him… especially since he blacked out in his class. Though that could be how he was with everyone.
“But you still laughed,” the half-demon pointed out with a smirk. The smirk faded when he mentioned Adri. “Are you still friends with her? On that thing she posted and then deleted she said you ruined her life.” Which didn’t sound like she really wanted to be friends with him anymore. Was the Christmas present to make up it? If so, it was a little early.
“Ryuuko told me not to ever speak to her,” Sasha said as he looked at one of the puppets. “Wendy says she has lots of stuffed animals so I guess she doesn’t need anymore.”
Pavel frowned slightly at the reminder of the post. “It is… complicated. We are still friends. But she is not wrong, at the least I did not make things easy for her.” Which was the very least. “We spoke before summer.” And he hoped that she wasn’t just pretending when she said they were good.
“No dragon then.” He nodded, not having spoken to the girl himself. To be honest, he wasn’t entirely comfortable around younger kids, dragon or no. He did spy a purple unicorn that he thought Sasha might like, but he knew the other boy wouldn’t accept it if he just up and bought it for him, but maybe… Christmas… He had never been able to get shopping done early and always happened to wait until the last minute, but there he was with the prime chance. Only problem was… Sasha was right there. While the half-demon was looking at some of the figures he walked over to one of the clerks and quietly asked him to set aside two items. He then texted his sister to see if she’d come and get them- he’d pay her back, but that way it was secret. Once that was done he moved back to Sasha. “You ready for next place?”
“If someone told people I’d ruined their life then I wouldn’t be friends with them, even if I had ruined their life,” he said with a shrug. Perhaps that was just him. But perhaps not. Besides, had Pavel really ruined Adri’s life? She’d been sick for a little while but she was better now, and it wasn’t as if he’d hurt any of her family.
Sasha wandered off to look at some of the other things in the shop. He glanced back at Pavel who seemed to be talking to the shopkeeper or something, but paid it no mind. Maybe he was buying the wolf for Adri after all.
The half-demon smiled at the fae when he returned and suggested they move on. “Sure.” As they left the puppets behind, someone walked past holding something in a napkin; he couldn’t tell what it was, but it looked like it was covered in chocolate and cream. “Ooh, do they do desserts here? We should get some...”
