"Me and sports don't really . . . get a long," Mike said, "I have asthma to start. I'm also . . . yeah." He gestured to himself. Small, lanky, and asthmatic. Not exactly the ideal person to play sports. Whereas Brendan was (really) tall, athletic, and it seemed to go against the will of the gods that he wasn't into sports. The guy was even asking more about the things that Mike was interested in with his powers. It was cool of him to do it, even if there was a very high chance he probably wasn't all that interested.
"Yes and no," Mike said, "There's the chemistry part of batteries. Lithium and so on, how it can generate power and such. They're still making big improvements for that, which is cool. But I'm talking about programs not requiring so much output from batteries. Take my phone for instance—" he pulled out his cellphone.
"It's got the battery—" he tapped the back, "—and it's got all these other components inside. There's the camera, the motherboard, and all the wiring. Then you have the programs installed on the phone too. But programs can have an effect on battery life. Check this out."
He unlocked the phone and opened up Pokemon GO, going to the Settings menu, "You select the option that saves your Battery. All of this stuff is code and the CPU processing power it requires can juice your battery of its life. So if we can figure out code to make programs suck up less power, then phone batteries can last longer. Find a way to program and allow for larger chunks of code to be processed with the same amount of power as something with far less data processing and bam, you've got the next Android or iPhone model for the market."
