Empty Office: Felicity, Galad, maybe Gil, their parents, Rafe and possibly Jack
Gilderoi and Galadari's parents both had come to see their children and hear of their progress from their teachers. Because there were two of them, the Baron and Baroness of Bymarka took their twins in shifts. The mother went with Gil and the father went with Galad. Each meeting went as expected. Galad's father always retained a solid presence when he entered the room. Elvan aristocracy was demanding and when around the Baron, Galad behaved as he never did at the school. He assumed the same air of confidence and authority as his father. His quick grin was gone, replaced with a straight and observant piercing gaze. Galad had been groomed for this role and he wore it well.
The Baron left his attendants, those that traveled with him and his wife, in order to come to the meetings alone. He was a cousin to the king of elves, but at the Academy, he was just another parent, concerned and invested in his children.
Galad had pulled his grades up after entertaining a rebellious streak and failing his classes on purpose. Aside from a few mischievous incidents, many of which the Baron had already heard about, it was all good news. Galad knew the real news was yet to come, and he kept his ears turned for any mention from teachers or students about Felicity's pregnancy. It was a miracle when they finally made it into the room all together and their parents were still none the wiser.
Galad encircled Felicity's hand with his own, sharing her nerves. They had decided that she'd be the one to tell them. While they were both responsible, it was Felicity who carried the baby and potentially had the most to lose. Mr. Bainbridge had made the marriage agreement with the Rubinharts because of their obvious good standing in the kingdom and connections with the royal family. But the man had already made one child of his disappear. They all knew it, but they never spoke of it. Compared to Felicity's father, the Baron was much more kind and lenient with his children. And Galad would never call his father lenient.
Felicity said the words and silence fell once more in the room. Galad looked straight ahead, but he was cocked and ready to react. He had already mapped out an escape plan should the need arise. His stance shifted slightly, putting Felicity more behind him with a fierce desire to shield her.
"You did WHAT?" The Baron was the first to break the tense silence. His wife looked at him, worry written on her face as she grasped his hand. Baron Rubinhart shook off her touch, in no mood to be calmed, and continued, using Elvish to address his son. "You irresponsible CHILD. I have been patient with all of your ridiculous displays of rebellion because I knew that at least this, this joining, this betrothal would be honored, that you would never DARE to disrespect and disgrace your family by tarnishing anything with her. But you couldn't even be relied on for that!"
Galad didn't speak, not even to defend himself. There was no defense in the world that would make right what they had done.
His father turned to Felicity's father. "Richard, please accept my deepest apologies. Had I known, had any inkling that this would happen..."
