Thread: Valentine's . . . Hang Out? WHO: Caitlin Murphy & Van Carlyle WHEN: Valentine's Day WHERE: Caitlin's Room, Hydra Dorm
Caitlin was still struggling to figure out what the hell she was doing. She asked Van to spend Valentine's Day with her. She was still feeling residual jealousy at Gil's presence but she . . . didn't hate Van. It was stupid and complicated and it really pissed her off when she thought about it too long. Sometimes she wanted to punch him. Sometimes she even went to see him in order to punch him but they ended up hanging out and even making out. She wasn't used to wanting to be around someone consistently. It felt like she was losing some of the independence and "I don't need anyone" attitude that she had clung to for a long time. But Van had arrived and anxieties and frustrations were set aside.
She wore a long-sleeved heather gray shirt with a V-neck and black leggings. The only part of her clothing out of the norm was the leggings. And the eye make up. It wasn't excessive but she had taken the effort to put some on and get a smokey effect to make the green of her eyes more prominent. Caitlin was sans shoes since they were in her room and it was her comfortable place. Her room, for the most part, looked as it usually did but she'd taken the effort to clean up a bit and drawers weren't left open or in a state of disarray. Her pillows had been moved around to make it more comfortable o the bed for them watch her movie.
It was a rough cut and she played all of the roles in it but there was only one role that had a face. It was definitely strange though, with shots that were jarring but it was on purpose. It was meant to be a strange shift becaues it was representative of the main character's unsettled mind. The story involved a girl who was being followed by a dark figure. It moved in closer as the film progressed, intermingled with a scene of a deer staring at the screen and scampering off. The dialogue was minimal. In some scenes she raised the saturation and blinked more than usual, and in others it was almost grayscale and there was a lethargic feel to it. She'd used the GoPro, so there was a guerilla sort of film-style to it.
Eventually it came to the scene that she'd told him about, the one she put in to unsettle Farrell. A shadowed figured attacked the main character, and Caitlin had to get creative about how she filmed that since she was essentially fighting herself. It came to a point though where it was a darkened figure looming over the main character and the sound of choking and gagging accompanied it as gray begin to fill the screen. The scene was going on for a few minutes, maybe too log for most people and that was on purpose. Death wasn't comfortable. She would know. The gasps for air were stifled and then the light thudding of a heart beat slowed. The breathing stopped and then a few more thuds and the beating stopped. The screen went black.
Then it changed to a scene of the main character sitting on a bench, staring straight ahead emotionless. The shot zoomed in slowly and centered on her eyes. She blinked twice, an image flashed and was gone before it could be fully processed. A body in a ditch, half-covered. Then it was a full view of Caitlin, who rose from her seat and departed from the bench.
Caitlin sat watching Van the whole time, sitting-cross legged with a plate of half-eaten pizza forgotten front of her. This probably wasn't the most romantic film they could watch but she wasn't really all that romantic and Van had wanted to see the movie, so she was showing it to him. She stared at Van intensely, "Well?"
