Thread: Studying WHO: Callidora Manikas & {Open} WHEN: Sunday April 12th WHERE: The Library
Having spent the better part of her life isolated from people, turning up at a school surrounded by loud teenagers all of a sudden was quite a culture shock to the young dragon to say the least. She’d yet to relinquish her hold on her small hoard, the silver rings on her fingers and the necklaces that dangled around her neck were but part of it, the rest was in the canvas bag she had, the strap of which rested across her chest, her fingers curled tightly in it to ensure that she didn’t drop it or lose it or have it taken away from her.
She had been shown to the room that was to be hers for the duration of her stay at the school and whilst it had a lock on the door, it seemed insufficient to keep out an intruder. Was she to store her precious items there? She thought not. After all, anyone could walk in and take what they wanted. Such a flimsy protection on the door would not stop another dragon from entering, it would not stop a strong human or a werewolf. She had left her rug there, letting it decorate the floor at the foot of the bed but she was not leaving her jewellery there, her precious items. She would notice someone walking around with her rug if they were to steal it, it was hardly an inconspicuous item, but her jewellery and jewels? They could easily be hidden in a pocket, slipped into a bag and someone could walk past her carrying her things without her even knowing. The mere thought made her tighten her hold on her bag a little more.
She didn’t trust the school just yet, even though the headmistress had been quite clear that she would be safe here, that she was perhaps not to tell too many people what she was, and that there would be no one that would take her things. And then she had met the other dragon, a curious individual who had seemed to not know how to take her. Callidora had been confused by his reaction, she was delighted to see another of her kin but he had seemed not so. She wondered if it was her, even though he had confessed to never having met another of their kind. If she was not what he had been expecting. She hoped that she hadn't disappointed him, especially if she was the only other dragon at the school and the only other one that he had met. Perhaps it would have been better if they could have met in their true forms. And she wanted him to like her. She hoped that he did. She hoped that she could see him again.
Her hair was down, curled loosely around her shoulders, dark lengths protectively shielding the starburst markings that ran down the length of her neck on either side underneath her ears and down that signified her as one of the dragon-kind. She wet her lower lip and rocked back on her heels as she stood outside the door to the library, inquisitive and curious and desperate to enter but at the same time nervous. So nervous because the halls were loud and deafening, not used to being around so much hustle and bustle it made her feel on edge. She felt like she was threatened at every turn and her shoulders were hunched up protectively as a crowd went past her. She pressed her teeth together, clenched her jaw and just waited for them to pass, white-knuckled grip on her bag, holding it against her chest protectively.
She eventually told herself that she was being ridiculous. She was a dragon and as such she was not afraid of anything. Certainly not people in a library. After all, there were books in the library, and book she could learn from. She knew that for a fact. She hadn't gone to any of the classes the first two days, she’d been told to just get acquainted with the school, catch up with some of the reading and she would be able to commence her lessons on the Monday. That was fine with her, but what could she learn from a classroom and a teacher that she couldn't learn from the books in the library? It was vast and were she prone to drooling, the sheer knowledge that was contained in here, in the pages of all of these books would have caused her to do just that.
Stepping inside, Callidora surveyed the area and tried to work out where to start. She headed off to the left and started headed rather determinedly for the Creature Lore section, reaching out to take the first book that her eyes had fallen on though in her fixation to get that one particular book, she had missed that there was someone else in the aisle too and she ended up coming face to face with a stranger, someone she didn't know. She reached up quickly and took the book she wanted off the shelf, pulling it against her chest and wrapping her arms around it. It was hers.
A split second later she felt very foolish and ducked her head. “I’m sorry-“ she started, “Did you want this one?”
