WHO: Rafe and Josephine
WHEN: Friday night, January 26
WHERE: Josephine’s balcony
If it wasn't for that accursed Ifrit and his accursed spree of good luck, Josie would now be having dinner with Rafe at Montrose, being waited on by fine staff who offered only the best wine. Instead, because Josie was sworn to keep out of her human form until after Pascha, she was rather stuck to campus or else be known as a real life Disney genie.
That wasn't entirely true. Mārid could travel quickly through astral plane anywhere they wanted to go. The Ifrit hadn't banned her from transforming into any other of her many favorite forms, just human. So she could travel as a blue wolf. A blue eagle. A blue snake. Always blue. But those other forms weren't prudent for having drinks with a smart and attractive ex-pirate vampire high school history teacher.
Josephine's blue torso was wrapped in a gold threaded red hijab that continued up and over her head in a shimmering veil. The smokey tendrils occasionally wisped from her fingertips or her feet. It was a slight blur of movement that became solid lines again when she went still. She did not remain still very often.
"Oh stop! You did not suggest such a thing to Benjamin Franklin!" She swatted at Rafe with a wispy hand. There was a wide smile of laughter on her face and it had been there almost from the time they sat together on the small castle balcony just outside Josephine's private quarters. There were rugs laid down on the stones beneath them and the chairs and table were a sturdy Acacia wood. Sturdy enough to hold the bottle they were sharing, anyway.
"What did he say? What did his mistresses say? And how on earth did you find out he had gonorrhea?" Abruptly, Josephine called a halt, still laughing. "No, no, never mind. I don't want to know!"
The conversation lulled long enough for them both to take a drink. Josephine looked up at the sky and sighed to herself. "This is wonderful. Thank you for coming, Rafe. Tell me how you've been. How are your students in Pegasus?"
