WHO: Aktamun & Galadari
WHEN: November 8
WHERE: Courtyard
Aktamun had met Galad at his room and then together they walked outside and ended up at the courtyard. Galad decided this was as safe a place as any to discuss the specifics of his plan with the boy. Less of a chance of anyone, especially Mr. Cavanaugh, overhearing them.
Having witnessed a few of the boy's stunts, Galad got a sense that Aktamun was sort of a kindred spirit. These days, without his brother, Galad was short of kindred spirits who would accompany him on his adventures. He had to take what was available instead, and that meant he was plucking from the bottom ranks. The Standard year. He wasn't expecting miracles, but he was willing to allow himself to be impressed.
"Adolescent jackalopes." Galad smirked and crouched down on the stone cobbles to pick up a stray brightly colored leaf. He used it to beckon Aktamun down. "Mr. Cavanaugh has forbidden me from hunting them, but if they were to, say, escape..." Galad grinned. "He would need help finding and bringing them back in. That sounds a lot like hunting, doesn't it? Less killing, but I'll make do."
The elf didn't pause to ask if Aktamun was alright with this. He wouldn't have picked him if he thought he would get squeamish at the idea of breaking the rules. Mr. Cavanaugh had already hinted that the jackalopes were skilled at escaping their confines. It would be easy to shift blame or suspicion from the two boys responsible for freeing them.
"They are being kept here." Galad pointed at a stone with the leaf tip to mark the location of the temporary holding room for the creatures. "The caretakers leave towards the end of the day, before the dinner hour, and Cavanaugh checks on them one more time before he retires for the evening. The door is locked when he leaves and guarded with a ward. We need to set the kittens free before Cavanaugh makes his final visit. A key I can easily get, but we can't break the ward without setting off alarms. And it's generally not a good idea to tamper with them. This gives us a one hour window between caretakers leaving and the lovable banshee showing up. But." Galad glanced up at Aktamun. "We would also need to be seen in the dining hall for the dinner hour or Cavanaugh might get suspicious."
"That's where you come in." Galad dragged the leaf across the cobbled stone and drew a circle where the dining hall was on his mini map. "In order to have an excuse to not be in the dining hall at the time the kittens' escape, I need you to create a disturbance that causes a need for everyone to evacuate. I can slip into the room unseen during the confusion and release our little furry friends. I'll lock the door on my way out and we reconvene here."
Now Galad did pause, leaf pointing in the general area where the courtyard would be in perspective to the dining hall. Glancing again at Aktamun, Galad studied his new friend's expression to get a sense of what he was thinking. "Questions? Suggestions?"
