Narrative: I screwed up
Who: Pavel (NPC Yulia Konychev)
When: Nov 1st, Evening
Where: Pavel's room/phone
The kid from Odessa stared at his phone for almost an hour before he finally picked it up and called. "Hello?" He heard the almost chime like voice of his sister. She sounded happy. He was about to ruin that. "Pavel? I know it's you. Your number is in my phone." Hearing her voice, the language he grew up with gave him comfort for a moment.
"Yulia. Sorry." He said, feeling like he was whispering.
Her tone shifted to concern. "Pasha, what is it? Is something wrong?" Having practically raised her, she could get an overprotective streak to her when it came to her brother.
"No." Pavel said instinctively and shook his head. "Yes. But nothing you need..." He sighed and rubbed his forehead. "I do not know if Mr. Kaden is going to let you know, but I know I should first. I accidentally touched one of the girls here. She got poisoned." He waited for a response. None came. For a moment he thought the call had dropped. "Yulia?"
A sigh. "Pavel Konychev. You are not a stupid boy. How could you do such a stupid thing? You know what your touch does to girls. You sat what happened to Talia. You were told and were doing so good, how could you be so careless?" He took a breath as it to say something, but she continued. "You know that a girl can die because of you right? That your touch can actually kill her, but worse. Before that they will go insane!" Her anger was intense and he'd never heard her so livid at him. She'd taken this tone with their father in the past, after bringing Pavel home bruised and bloody. But he'd never been the target of her anger before. "You are dangerous, like a weapon. You cannot be careless. You cannot be overconfident. Do you understand?"
"Yes." He said, trying to hide the waver in his voice as some tears trickled down his cheek. Every word she said was true, he knew it. God, how could he have put Katherine at risk like that?
"And now I am going to have to call Auntie, risk calling Auntie back home to get some potion so this girl doesn't die." Yulia said, her anger carrying a bit of fear.
"No. One of the teachers here. She is going to get some." Pavel assured her. The last thing he wanted was Yulia to call home and risk anyone finding out she was still alive. "There's something else..." He added before she could yell again.
Her voice was eerily calm, as if holding back in preparation for the worst. "And what else could there be?"
Pavel took in a breath and let it out slowly. "Kat, the girl I touched, she has visions." He said slowly, terrified to tell her of what she saw. "She promised not to tell anyone what she saw... but..." He wiped his eyes as he took a slow breath. It was if he could feel the tension on the other end of the phone, his sister just waiting for him to give the bad news. "She saw me kill father." He said quickly.
There was another long silence before a whispered, "Pasha." She had always told him that the gun just 'went off', that it had been an accident. Pavel couldn't remember it anyway and he was now sure she'd said it to protect him.
"I've started to remember a little, not a lot but... flashes. But she saw it. She felt it. She felt my fear and saw me pull the trigger... and I did it. I killed Papa." He had no love left for the man, but at the same time it was painful to know that he had not only taken a life, but the life of the man who he had thought was his father. He wasn't sure which hurt more. The fear that he'd killed a Vor echoed through his head as well.
"Pasha. You had no choice." She said. "He would have killed you, and if not that, he would have beaten you to an inch of your life and forced you into one that you are better than." Pavel hear her words and wanted to crawl through the phone and onto her lap. "I want you to know that. And I love you. I am still furious at you about this girl. But you can't blame yourself about our father."
They exchanged a few more words before some love and best wishes. She left him with a 'be vigilant' and he disconnected the phone. Pavel laid down on his bed and curled up. He felt heavy with tears and just laid there until he fell asleep. The next day he was up early for detention. All weakness and vulnerability was left in his room as he remained extremely vigilant.
