Rafe's classroom was mostly quiet with students taking down notes furiously. The lecture of the day was on the Ottoman Empire and their conquest of Constantinople, and the significance of this on the rest of the world. The marker scribbled on the whiteboard, writing down the names of specific individuals and drawing lines to major world events that were triggered by it. The Spanish Inquisition, the age of exploration, and so on. His back turned to his class, he spoke loudly so they would listen, "Yes, this Isabella the First of Castile and Ferdinand the Second of Aragon are the same who funded Christopher Columbus, more accurately known as Cristobal Colon, for his attempt to find India. And no, Mr. Lucas, you do not get extra credit for—"
His sentence was cut off harshly by a shout. He turned, marker still in hand, the names on the board partially written, and his eyes scanned the room immediately. He spotted the owner of the shout immediately, and then observed that he was looking at someone else. That someone else was Davian. His brow furrowed and he lowered his arm, the whole class now sitting quietly and staring in the direction that Rafe was looking.
"Is everything alright, Mr. Park? Did Mr. Rivera do something?" he asked, taking the marker cap off the back and replacing it on the tip. He set the marker on the desk nearby and then folded his arms, watching the two with care and for clues as to what might have transpired should one decide to brush it off or tell a lie. Davian occasionally slept in class and the only real disturbance he made was when Rafe made a point to wake him from his slumber.
