Leon sighed heavily when the truth came out, and he raked back his hair with his eyes closed for a moment. "I see. Does our mother know?" Leon looked at her again, then scanned the room for his half-brother. "John didn't do well in school at all before, either, from what I'm told."
Maybe this was for the best, Leon thought. John could use another academic year under his belt to catch up where he was lacking in all his previous schooling. But the bigger problem was what kind of blow it must be to John's dwindling sense of self-esteem. Being held back another year for worldly reasons, not supernatural reasons, had to be humiliating. It was no wonder why John hadn't told him.
