The problem with having a job, Tanek mused, was that you sometimes had to work until late. And if you accounted for having dinner and finding suitable company, that usually meant that you started late with your Saturday night and the subsequent drugs you only took ever so often - fine, perhaps a little more often than most. The problem with most drugs Tanek liked was that, the later you took them, the later you went to bed. Sometimes, you skipped the entire night. Like now.
The others were already sound asleep in the Kitsune dormitory. That's what you got for taking more than you should, Tanek realized. He briefly considered going to bother Sorin - kiss him, maybe some other things too - but Sorin would immediately start scolding him when he saw his blown-out pupils. And so, Tanek had started wandering the school grounds.
The sky was gorgeous, as was the ocean. By the cliffs, the wind was stronger: it tugged at his coat, his hair. Tanek wandered closer and after a few moments, dared peek over the edge. Below, the waves were choppy, crashing over jagged rocks. It would be a steep fall.
He kicked a pebble over the edge and watch it fall into depths. It would be easy and he had been doing well for so long, so what harm could it do? It would be just once, and Tanek could just imagine the sheer drop, the cold, the adrenaline, just how alive he would feel if he were to take that plummet...
