Thread: Ice Rulers
WHO: Wendy & Lucia
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 12
WHERE: The woods
Over the past year or two of being at St. Margaret's, Lucia had become more self-aware. She'd always known she was an individual, not part of a hive or a collective, but interacting with the students at the Academy had especially highlighted her different-ness. Her frustrations, as she became stuck on the peak between pulling off the human act and just being an oddity, were growing daily. She was almost there. She could taste it. The normal-ness. And then she'd fall off the wrong side and come off as strange to the humans and she was back to square one, set to climb that peak again.
She did so alone. Humans were notorious in their peculiarities. That was the problem when your species was the dominant species on the planet. You became the norm, and everyone else became the ones expected to act the same way. And yet each time Lucia had reached out to try understanding the dominant species, they became less and less helpful. Mimicry would only get her so far. Lucia needed to understand. She needed to know. Her mind was too active and too concise-yet-scattered to let pretending be the end of her human education.
Aside from taking on humanity, Lucia had another duty. Spring would be coming soon, and she was out in the forest diligently planting tiny primrose seeds. She knew the possibility of these seeds ever carrying newly born Snowflakes - infant Winter Faeries, born of the laughter of innocent children - was very low, but sometimes she imagined gathering the new Flakes together, protecting them, teaching them all she knew. Then, perhaps she wouldn't be alone.
Lucia, her song like distant church bells as she danced around the forest, left a trail of frost in her wake. Each primrose seed she planted was encased in ice and it would stay just beneath the surface until the thaw, where it would grow with life and sweet nectar. She traveled in her tiny form, a leaf pouch carrying the small black seeds at her side. She was a speck of light and faerie dust as she landed in a new place and proceeded to plant another seed.
Lucia paused to listen, her delicate ice crystal wings twitching at a sound she heard. Naked except for the frost that clung to her, Lucia turned around and spotted the boy. His hair was almost as white as hers and his eyes the clear blue azure shade like hers as well. She knew his name was Wendy and he had not yet seen her. He was moving through the forest with such purpose that Lucia's Curiosity rose up and she dropped her seed and quickly followed.
