Alex waited quietly. He wasn't really all that good with words. Sometimes he tried to be and then people threw them back into his face. Other times he just couldn't put the right sympathy there, even though he kinda felt for the person. A lot of the time since making friends, Alex had learned to start burying his own feelings because most people didn't care about them. Even then, sometimes the friends who did listen only seemed to listen to get him to shut up. It was something he was trying to work through. It was better than before, he told himself, because he did care about those people.
He also cared enough to believe Fred. Fred who went out of her way to try to kill the guy who made her a vamp but also turned her friend. He took a chance and then reached his arm around her shoulder in a comforting motion, "Still ain't your fault. Maybe getting close was dumb, but Caitlin sounds like she cared about you to save you, even if it meant she wouldn't be around to see you saved."
